OK. I ran my Xt today and it died going down my street. I installed the Killer V2 kill switch a few weeks ago. I've run it numerous times since installing the switch. Has anyone else had this type of issue? Is there a history of bad coils on these trucks? What do I want to do, in what order? I did pull the starter cord with the plug out and verified NO SPARK. All help is appreciated.

The kill switch could've killed it. Unplug it and see if it'll start. If it doesn't start, try putting a new plug in. If that doesn't help, check the coil. Make sure the coil is tight and the air gap is correct.

Deluge,

how do I adjust the air gap? is that on the coil? When I pulled the plug, I rested the base against the exhaust. No arc whatsoever. Thanks for the quick input! Am I on the right track? Do the coils go on these regularly?

Mine did the same thing once. The plug went bad. I would try a new plug first. I thought mine was the coil since I could not see a spark. Just ended up being the plug.

The air gap is the space between the coil and the flywheel. There are two bolts holding the coil in place. When you loosen them, you can raise and lower the coil. What you want to do is get a business card and place it between the coil and the flywheel. Do this with the magnets on the flywheel facing down. When you have the business card in place, rotate the flywheel until the magnets pull down the coil, basically clamping down on the business card. Now hold the coil in place and tighten the bolts, then remove the business card. And, you're done.

Coils don't really die that often. I'm still using my original coil, and I've had the MT for a long while.

Deluge,

Thanks a bunch. I will get after my truck and post the results. What causes the loss os spark most often? is it the air gap, bad plugs, etc. I just want to be on the look out next time. The diagnostics is always the hardest part:)

Deluge and RC Dad,

Thanks a million to both of you! You guys are CONSISTENTLY helping all of us out! I know I appreciate the advice. I'm certain the balance of the Forum feels the same way! What plug do either of you guys suggest?

Turns out that I had a loose connection. It looked good, but when I wiggled it, the connection came apart! I reconnected it and wrapped it in electrical tape to be sure it doesn't happen again! As a matter of fact, I did that with all of 'em!
