Help!

New obr engine is on tank 3 and bogs, it has bogged from day 1 but seems to have gotten worse, the only thing I changed was that I put in the boost carb spacer, do you think that'd have an ill effect ? When it runs, it runs good though, maybe its just the tune ? Not sure and as usual I'm confused... I just want my puppy to run hard and good as it should (look im a rapper now) LOL..

As always I appericate the help...

It's still running rich but that's fine its new and your running it in now that your on third tank you could start to lean it off a bit. If you turn in the low speed needle that bog should go. Make only small adjustments.

say keith- i would make real shure that you do not have a intake leak- what carb do you have? I have a stock hy 30cc, put a jet pro rear mount-wabro 990- The fuel screws overlap some what- I am shure that ya know that as the tempeture drops, the engine requires a richer setting- makes it run leaner-i am not talking down to you keith, you may or may not know these things, i have no idea ya see? Also, there really is not enough sealing area on the jug-where the bolts screw in to. pay close attention to this, even with the bolts lock tited- torqued the engines shaking causes the jug- intake manifold gasket to squish and leak- just trying to help man- D Baird said it.

Also, if you do discover an intake leak, go to a honda motorcycle dealer and buy a tube of honda bond #4. apply a thin even film of this on the metal sealing surfaces, make absoluty certan you do not plug the hole that feeds the carb air pressure- smear a VERY thin film around this hole, ya still use the gaskets -- there is no need to put this #4 on the carb gasket- cause it has a wide-flat sealing surface- its the jugs lack of sealing surface thats micky mouse- these factorys should retool the jug one day---hint- hint??

thanks guys, the temp has dropped here in ny and she was running great in the warmer temps... now just takes off good, then bogs out til it dies... will play with the tune... what needle should I be adjusting more then the other, and whats a good starting point ?

Keith. with my stock HY 30cc -W990. I get the wheels off the ground-start the engine, never rev a cold motor, just hi idle with the transmitter throttle- once its up to temp- let it idle and mess with the lo-speed fuel needle-your pumped up motor may respond diffrently. turn the screw clock wise- damm its hard to explain with words, as you move the lo-speed screw back and forth listen for the place the engine neither speeds up- nor slows down- its happy place. this will get you in the ballpark- the motor will become slightly louder cause you are close to its ideal mixture- on lo-end. As for the hi-speed- its the same thing but ya gotta do this adjustment under a load- I like a football field- WOT. If you are running wot in short bursts- small areas- you can get away with being very slightly lean on the top end- just do not rev the crap out of the engine for hundreds of feet in a lean condition, just my method of getting in the ballpark - the guys that have been into 1/5 for years may have a better method.

yeah it idles great dusty, I will play with the tune tomorrow some... hopefully I can get it to be crisp and not bog... runs good when it does though!

spark plug looks good as well, the engine idles great, takes off sometimes with snot others it bogs... then sometimes its got full throttle and others it bogs, bogs more then it does snap though...

say keith- If you are useing Maxima Castor 927, read the bottle- with hi octane fuel at temps below 35 degrees separation may occur. keep the fuel- oil mix out of the cold weather in N.Y. shake the gas can- and the r-c before you run it. when this motor bogs- does it smoke out the pipe a bunch? The word bog sounds like its not getting enough fuel when the engine is winding up. any 2 cycle motor will smoke for a few seconds because its cooking- blowing the unburnt fuel out of the expansion chamber as the engine winds up. your stroker motor is gonna have a very strong fuel signal as it winds up- i think its lean on the hi-speed fuel needle- If you installed the intake yourself- remove the engine cover and look very closely for signs of a leak-hate to see ya telling us that you seized a hi-end engine in later posts.

Here is a fact- most of our r-c gas engines compression ratios are extreme- we only get away with this because there is such a small volume of air- little engines- A big engine- motorcycle- full sized truck-car would burn a hole in the pistons in short order with the same compression ratios that our little r-c engines have. Sooo - checking for intake leaks is of paramount importance with these little engines- OBR- or Earth surfer- or that shop in N.Y. close to you will confirm this.

I checked and tightened all the intake stuff, its sealed and well...

It's a tune issue. What are your needle settings? Screw in the HS needle a turn at a time and count how many turns it takes to bottom out. Do the same with the LS needle, and write them down so you don't forget. We could all guess rich/lean, but unless we know the current needle settings, it's kinda pointless.

Also, keep in mind the cold weather does effect the tune. Cold air is more dense, so it needs to be run a little richer.

I'm like 2 and a 1/4 turns in on the high and a touch over 2 turns on the low side...

yeah it ran good when it was 60 out, then it turned 40 out and this started... I gotta learn how to tune, with my TT, its set and it runs (wt-613) vs (wt-990)

Well I just went outside and played w the high needle and I gave it more has... Seems to have responded well.

Does the cold kill our hump packs?

yeah I only had the high at like 1 and 3/4 turns out...

I gave it more gas and it was responding better. However my steering was weak, so I dunno if leaving my trucks in my truck out in the cold kill my humpbacks...

OR

if my servos are crapping out already, I wouldn't be surprised with my crappy luck!
