OBR engine bogs...

Cold weather does effect pack performance. It basically shuts them down. However, you can hook up the pack to a charger and let it warm up before you use it.

nicad/nimh batts are largely effected by cold. It slows down the chemical reaction that produces electrons. They can't produce the current required to meet demand. I would keep them indoors before you go out to bash.

I don't have an OBR engine but this thread seemed good to post my question.

I just rebuilt my 26cc stocker with a RACE PORTED 30.5cc Big-Bore Combo Kit 4.25+ HP (+2mm Stuffed Crank)

http://www.davesmotors.com/s.nl/c.885035/n.1/it.A/id.4844/.f

It started fine...it idles fine, ran it around for two 15min heat up cool downs.

Yesterday and this morning, I tried to run again and it starts and runs fine (still under 1/2 throttle) but after the engine fully heats up, it BOGS major giving it just a little throttle....also might have been same for first two heat up cool downs...

I am starting it at factory needle settings for break in ...1 1/2 H ....1 1/4 L...Is this wrong starting setting for the engine I rebuilt? It's in the 40's here but I still want to break it in rich and these setting seem to be rich but it still bogs

Thanks for the input....

My new OBR ran like that when running base carb settings. Mine was just really rich. I left it that way for the first two tanks. I didn't want to take a chance on a $500 engine. On my third tank I leaned it out just enough to get rid of the bog. Ran it another tank and started to lean a little more watching the plug color and temps now it screams and no bogging.

OK thanks but ....I wouldn't mind letting it bog at 1/4 to half throttle for the rest of the first tank, but at this point once it's warmed up (not even 5 minutes), it wont go past idle....I think I should lean out the low needle ?? (I'm at 1- 1/4 L 1 1/2 H) because it bogs right as I press the throttle.

What carb are you running?

You are not going to hurt it if you just lean it to keep it running. I would lean out the H 1/16 that normally gets rid of my bogs.

How high is your idle?

If you have your idle is really low, raise it a little that might keep it from stalling.

You can also lean the L 1/16 that will raise the idle. And help with the stalling out when you give it throttle.

I also use nonsynthetic oil during break in. I like to see the smoke as a reminder of how rich I need to be.

Thanks, I am running an 813...I'll try messing with the needles more tomorrow....I was just afraid of running lean on break in...especially when I'm using 32:1...I should really add a bit more oil (closer to 25:1) for the break in.

I run 25:1 on mine with a wt-990 carb...

I am gonna try to lean it out some too, its tough with the cooler weather here, ran great when it was in the 70's.... the 40's and 50's is tough to tune to...

Well I had a major brain fart and wound up forgetting that I only hand tightened the spark plug towards end of day Monday and I needed to re-tighten the Isolator block bolts...breaking it in just fine now...thanks for everyone's help...

I am also running 25:1 for the rest of break-in.
