So when I picked up my 5B, it was the weekend and everything was closed so I bought some cheap (Husqvarna) oil no more than it was going to be ran, maybe ran for 25 minutes or so.

Today, I went to the bike shop and picked up some Klotz Super Techniplate for it. Here's my big question, the manual says to run a 25:1 mix, but I've seen in various forums where guys are running 32:1, and even 40:1. I ran it at 32:1, and it ran fine with no issues. So how lean, is too lean of a mix, or how much can I lean it out safely?

Also, any of you run the Klotz oils? I've never used it, but I know from friends it's highly regarded in Karting.

Thanks guys

I don't know Klotz oils.
The FG publicity tells you to use 40:1 for the Zenoah engines.
All experienced people on this forum - with the t-shirts!! - say don't use a ratio higher than 32:1 and many use 25:1.
I don't run more than perhaps 23 hours per month but I use 32:1 with synthetic Castrol.
The reason is that there's not much more oil entering but whatever the extra will help in the long run.

I run mine on coleman fuel at 25:1. Some of the guys here run thiers at 32:1 and seem to be fine. My thought is a little extra oil is not going to hurt. I'm very hard on my engine and have no issuses at all. Someone here will give you a better answer than me. Also I used Klotz with my airplanes and they do make a good high grade oil.

Enjoy
Mike

Thanks for the info guys. I'm going to call tomorrow and see if the local airport will sell me some 100LL fuel. I know it doesn't need the ocatane (which in all reality from my research is only around 91) but at least it doesn't have that ethanol crap in it.

Also, it's raining like pouring piss out of a boot here, and supposed to all weekend long.......BOO! Oh well, guess I'll get that body painted up then.

Do a search on here about high ocatane!! I have been told never use high ocatane in less the motor was design for this. Our engines are not design for such high ocatane plus you will not see any big changes as for power. Go with the check gas from the pump or Coleman fuel. I use coleman fuel mbecause it runs cleaner and does not have that gas smell... Plus my son is alergic to pump gas.

Oh well, after the search it looks like 87 octane it is. I guess I'll just deal with the ethanol drawbacks same as I do with the bikes, just tear the carb down and clean it, lube up the o-rings and seals once a year.

castrol A747 all the way :)

also its not a good idea to switch between oils, choose 1 & stick with it due to the different properties each has, people often change piston ring if they change oil as it can cause probs if ya don't :s

Looks like the Castrol stuff is not available across the pond. :D I will however stick with the Klotz since it has a great reputation, and even says on the back of the bottle recommended for RC gas engines. Thanks for the tip on sticking with one oil.

or you could try this nitous to give yor motor that extra "zing"

No offense to anyone that has it, but I wouldn't put nitrous on anything I ever own. I wasn't looking for any extra HP, just trying to get away from ethanol, that stuff is the worst thing to ever be put in gasoline.

look at premium pump gas, i know where i am the premium contains no ethanol. i run mine on pump 94 and it runs just fine. the only real reason i run 94 in it though is because my 1:1 car requires 94, so its easy to fill the gas can up when im filling the car.

Ethanol is one of our governments great mandates on our fuel. :yuk:

You can sometimes find non eth gas in farm communities like mine. They will have the sticker stating something like only to be used in collectors cars, small engine, motorcycles, boats, snowmobiles, and farm use. I love the last one - Farm use. They make the stuff and wont use it.

Remember that RON is different the OCT. RON Numbers are lower then OCT numbers.

I use Shell V-Power and oil at 25-1 ratio

This is what I use and never had an issue:rolleyes:
