why is my exhaust spitting out speks of oil,? it did before this but as a more smokey comtrast!now seems to be speks of it.

How rich are you running it is it still at stock settings? Because mine did that and i had to lean it out a bit to get it to run with some pep ( just leaned it by a 1/8 on LS and 1/8 on HS)

was on normal settings for h/l needles, but cant seem to tune it like it has an air leak!had the same problem brought new carb and was fine, after 1 tank is playing up!!! problem after problem.:(

What is happening when you try tuning it? Check the head bolts are tight, same with the exhaust manifold & bolts thru carb (remove air filter for access). Did you use new gaskets when you changed the carb?

i got the carb changed at freeprawn, the carb gaskets seemed fine so used the same one, i used both of the old ones, the paper gasket between the head and the block and the metal one between the air filter and the carb

Spray WD40 around those gaskets to see if it revs higher. X2 on the head bolts. Mine was acting like that

When you find the leak with the WD40 the revs will drop as you are blocking the air leak off and effectively richening the mixture. Basically the same as when you turn the L needle at idle, richening the mixture makes the revs drop & too much eventually floods the engine & leaning out increases rpm & the engine races.

I would not reuse the gasket. Its a cheap replacement. If you buy a new gasket set pick up an alloy insulator and do the upgrade. Its well worth it.
You say someone else replaced the carb with a new one did it not come with new gaskets? What type of carb did they put on?

sorry guys, i sorted it a few days back, the carb is a direct replacement w'boro .603.The problem was(feel stupid!) i cleaned out the hole in the fuel cap.made it slighly bigger and cleaned the rubber slit in side, now its fine.Ive had 4 tanks through the headkit now and it absolutely fliessssssss!!!!thanks guys. Oh and the problem i had with reving while choke on was because the brake rod was too long so when turned on choke it ,it got stuck so was a 2mm gap meaning air still got in and kept it running.

hi dwarthy, had that problem with head coming loose too, i could fill 10 pages of posts for all the problems ive had with the marder, but its good at the moment,if i had to sell all my cars for any reason, that would be the one i would refuse to get rid of!Some people say they are ok for beginners and are an old desighn(from 1991 i think)but i love it,made a vid last night at a carpark, will give you the link when i get it on utube mate, engine feels so strong.

heey i was having the same thing with the oil coming out of the exhaust, read it was normal so wasnt worried. however used the petrol oil mix which was provided with the car when i bought it for first time, now no oil is coming out of the exhaust and there isnt little spits hitting the ground when its running, im worried now their wasnt enough oil mixed with the petrol or something eek

Old design maybe but the sales still prove it is a good 1 :D Its simple to work on & maintain, parts are cheap enough and you can change it to a beetle, MB or MT without much hassle. I like mine too
