Yesterday I was running my car with another friend`s nitro buggy.


My car was running great, it was going full gas and when I was going to make a turn It went ballistic on its own.


It crashed hard on a concrete base demolishing the front end.


Broken, ripped parts all over. Nasty.


The engine was still running so I stopped it.


My radio was on so I tried to see if the servos were working.....nothing.


Then I see that the switch was off!


Not sure if it was on impact or if a branch or something "accidentally" moved the switch to the off position while it was running.


The car did not have the body on but it did not matter at all because now I realized that the switch is very "exposed" and something like that can easily happen and it did.


No failsafe could have saved it.


So move the switch to another location before something like this happens again.


I am learning the hard way............

One thought comes to mind---- why don't you have a engine kill switch?
 
this sounds too familur.. what stearing servo are you using? this sounds odd, but its been documented by others on the forum as well as myself.. some servo's have had problem when they got warm or stressed that they interfeere with the throttle servo cousing a full left/right hand turn with the stearing servo and a pegged throttle servo. not really sure what happens "in" the servo, but i have heard that it has to do with cold solder on the circuit board getting warm and cousing strange glitches. i had this problem with a scanner rc servo. it would be fine for a short time, but when it got warm it would interfere with my throttle servo.. a standard failsafe would have done nothing to help you. i remote kill switch is the safest failsafe to run.


-i would check the reciever antenna. make sure its not cracked or resting by the spark plug


- i would also check both servo's. or simply replace them for safe measures. sounds extreme, but one servo cost me tons of agrivation(and money)


-i would check the on/off switch too. it easly gets wet. my mt went out and would bounce between on and off cousing odd what i thought was odd servo glitching


- i would make sure you battery/servo connections are good by wiggleing the wires at the reciever and checking for "cut outs"


i will look for the other thread that pointed out simular problems
 
I have a Picoswitch that I was going to install today with othe items I received.


But I think that if the switch "accidentaly" went off I would not be able to stop the engine because there is no current on the receiver.


Before the crash I changed both servos.


Put a Futaba 9303 on throttle and a Baja steering servo.


By the way, the Spectrum fail safe function was working properly, I checked it.


But when you do not have current on the receiver there is nothing you can do.
 
I have a modified Pico and no matter what happens, the engine gets killed.....so the battery/receiver switch is not the problem.
 
Funny story is we were trying out our killswitch and 3PM 2.4gHz transmitter failsafe for distance and we weren't able to get it to fail........we went as far as we could see on the powerlines and it kept going, everything working fine...so the Futaba's definitely have some range!!!!....oh, and yes it was a pain to turn around when your truck is the size of a pin head :eek:
 
If you lose signal loss of power or battery gets weak its kills the engine period i love mine its saved my ass a bunch of times

Some kill switch use a normally open contact (NO)... very bad, because if your battery or switch fail, you wouldn’t be able to kill the engine


Other use a normally close contact (NC)... this is the best, what ever happen, the engine get killed, (ex: if the RX battery switch is OFF, you will not be able to start the engine) it's like pushing the manual kill switch while cranking


I know that some model have both (NO and NC contact)

I have the DEP Pico switch from Large Scale RC.


is this a normally close contact (NC) kill switch?
