Opinion on the 2 speed

Got my pipe on and my next idea is the 2 speed kit. I mentioned it to one guy that has a FG Beetle and he said he had heard the 2 speed gears were weak. Any thoughts on this?
 
I want to add that the pin on the second gear is known to break as well...
Good steel pinion gears for the clutch bell...your set..good to go....Slawhammer
 
I haven't had a problem with the gears in my on road, but am using the moomanuk pin fix and just change them when they wear. Steel pinions and plastic spurs
 
I've never had the pin break, what it does do is work itself out of the aluminium carrier and then disappears one day! :D. Easy fix is to replace the pin with something a little beefier, there are a few threads on here showing the modification :)
