Hi Guys

Just after some opinions on pull start outerwears

I run my DR on dry grass and the bottom half of the outerwear between the splash guard and the pull start gets packed solid with grass to the extent that I have to either take the splash guard off or dig at the grass with a screwdriver before I can blow it out with the compressor.

The top half is OK though.

In your opinions would this be enough to overheat the motor?

Would I be better off running without the outerwear and just letting the little bits of grass go through the fan?

I don't want to run without the guard unless I REALLY have to as I think it gives the chassis strength in that area.

Thanks

Phill

Keep the outerwears. One thing you definitely don't want is a stray rock or stick getting in there and breaking off your cooling fins. I'm also willing to bet that grass will pack in that area regardless of the outerwears being there or not.

If you are concerned with engine temps, you can get a cheap infrared temperature gun to monitor your engine temps. It's a good idea to have one anyway so you may as well.

Yep ,keep the outerwares. You may also want to install mesh on the bottom of the crankcase to keep the grass out.

If you dig'n up that much grass it will eventually get up and around the flywheel and cause you to loose spark.

Here is an example.

I use the outerwares, but I also did like a over tray/screen.

I got some window screen and Velcro from home depot.

I cover most of the car, hardly any grass or rocks get in...

I am impressed with how well a "whole car screen" can work. I think I will build a few this winter.

I'd like to see a pic of that if you could send one

Thanks
