Going to the river on camping trip and taking the MT out. It's going to be 104 degrees. I have one of those point and aim digital temp gage. Does anybody know a safe range to operate at or what temp is considered overheating? Thanks fellas!

104 is nice and cool man! Try 115 LOL. You should be fine. The 220s is what mine seems to run when it's over 100 out.

Haha 104 nice n cool! It's 80 where I'm at and I'm sweating it up! Lol

Thanks again!

There is no base temp. Some engines run hotter than others. I've seen some engines get up to 280 without any ill effect. Also, take the temp at the spark plug. Some say take the temp at the header, but the header temp will always be hotter than the actual engine temp.

My 220s readings come from the side of the cylinder on the clutch side. The plug reads hotter.

Where would be the best place to place a loop temp sensor? Just above the header or split the difference between the header and the spark plug. Any ideas?

Mine is installed around the spark plug. Maybe not the best place, but it's easier to remove for maintenance.
This is where most people install them.
