This baja is causing me some grief. Having worked on it all day, I still have an overly tight mesh I think.

The part that holds the clutch bell didnt seem very straight to me so I put a washer in below one of its legs which brought it out a bit and seemed to help the mesh a lot.

Put it all back together and somehow it sounds worse again, it really doesn't sound too great pushing it along.

Im considering just driving it anyway and seeing what happens, ive put an uprated Hostile spur gear on it. Im starting to think a clone might have been a big mistake.

try loosening the 3 engine mount bolts ,then put a piece of card between the spur and pinion, and give the motor a push forward, then re tighten the bolts,,

i thought that mate but trust me if i ever get another one im goin for a km age :)

Are any of the support plates cracked or bent?

Not as far as I can see it looks fine.

Just thought what the hell and took it out a run last night. Put some light grease on the spur and pinion to hopefully ease their movement.

Drove it around for about 30 mins in fields last night and it held up ok, so maybe the stronger Hostile spur gear I got will be tough enough to survive. Im happy with everything else on the car, it was fun to drive :)

Taking it out tonight with some other baja owners ( as long as the rain stays away lol )

Well I took it out tonight and after all of 10 mins its playing up again ... I noticed the car was coming to a halt way too quickly when it should have been rolling ... pushed it myself and it was locking up the back wheels so turned it off.

I guess the spur must be getting mangled yet again. Getting very very annoyed with this car now, I mean its brand new!!

make sure that your throttle is set proply and the brakes arnt on when its just sitting there thats what mine was if the mesh was tight the gear would be tueed by now

to be honest mate these things get advertised as r,t,r but there anything but it seems the 23cc has allways had build issues, i,d suggest a rear end stripdown just to check everything like diff oil and sometimes there is a missing bearing in the gearbox there is a thread about the missing bearing on this forum somewere, i had all these problems an more with my s,q baja but that was my own fault for no tearing it down when i got it home from new,

Ok I think Ive made a good improvement. I noticed the mesh was much freer when this metal gear plate was not bolted on :

So I figured the plate must be pulling the gears towards each other when its bolted on. So I filed down the cut outs for the pinion gear and the square one for the brake assembly with shaft so they were not such a tight fit. This seemed to help a lot.

So its back together and whilst theres still a little rumbling as I push it, it rolls much more freely , I think the plastic gear cover amplifies the slightest noise.

Fingers crossed again !
