Pinion gear removal KM Baja

Hi

Trying to remove the pinion gear on my baja to get to the clutch but can’t seem to get the nut off just spins? tried wedging screwdriver in the gears to stop them moving but still no luck am I missing something?

So the nut turns without the pinion turning ? if so ,it is stripped and will need cutting off.
