Had to make a run to Sears today to pick up something for the wife. Of course I went through the Tools. Found a Craftsman 3.6v NiCad evolve screwdriver. 1/4" collet, 0 - 200 RPM, 27 in-lbs torque, 1 year warranty for $14. She doesn't know it YET, but Wifey bought it for me. Sears is a 60 mile round trip! :)

DDM hex drivers fit it perfectly, putting rims together just got a bunch easier! And, yes, I just put a couple tires on new rims yesterday.

My other rig is a Baja. And my winter project is a Kraken build using a SS no engine kit. Talk about screws...

I think HPI invented them. :)

Perhaps, I'll add a used 5IVE to the garage some day. I like BIG 4X4's. Won't pay the price of a new 5IVE though. By the time I get through adding things to a NEW buggy to get it where I want it, the price has doubled, or tripled. Not much stock is left. That's why I got a SS kit for the Kraken build. Lot's of spare parts for the other one. Saves on shipping from DDM.

I've seen some decent deals one used ones.

They are also available in a roller. Just like most 5th's the radio and servos need upgrading anyway.

Thanks. Actually the ads for the 5IVE when it came out is what got me into Large Scale RC. I flew gliders for years, but we moved to the Mojave Desert, and the Mojave isn't really "Glider Friendly". Still had the RC bug though. In the early '80's I had a Radio Shack buggy that was a bit larger then a Bandit, and hauled. Even looked like the Bandit. This was before AE, Losi, Traxxas were even started. I have 1/10 nitro and electric rigs, but again, it's the Mojave Desert. Rocks are bigger then the buggies. But, I was bitten by the "Buggy Bug" long ago, and the Dune Runner fit the bill for a starter Large Scale. Now, look. A Custom OBR 5b (reason behind the madness there, I wanted to see the best aftermarket stuff without spending two arms and a nut, at $400 over a RTR, a good deal and a beautiful buggy to boot!). A Kraken build coming up, and the ongoing "Quest for a Wheelie" with the Dune Runner! Any ideas on putting a Skopod 60cc on it? The driveline to the rear diff rubs on the bottom of a Zenoah crankcase. Too much flex at the rear of the chassis. I'm thinking about a couple of L stiffeners underneath welded in, running to about half way under the gas tank. Or a steel roll cage.

Or,

Possibly, making windows and attaching those to the roll cage might work. I'll try that first. When I installed windows on the 5b I noticed the roll cage is stiffer. Need them to keep the dirt and sand out anyway.

Next year, perhaps the 5IVE!

Starting with a 5b SS no motor kit. Kraken Class 1 desert racer semi scale cage and body. Aftermarket front and rear arms. Aftermarket clutch, tranny, quick change diff housing. Heavy duty dogbones and drive cups. And more. Initial power will be the CY that came with the Dune Runner, with the OBR 2 bolt 2mm stroker crankshaft kit I have on the bench. Light bars, LED's, GoPro camera mount, that sort of bling.

A "Daily Driver" for around the house. So I don't feel the pressure to get everything NOW, the build will be spread out over time. The buggies are mostly sand only now. Big rocks and lots of brush in the desert.

:)

It'll take a bit. Monies this month are for Dunetoberfest

If it hits a rock, the rock will cry "Ouch!" Tumbleweeds will tremble in fear.

DDM is making money.

By spring I'd say.

Kraken signed on as a sponsor at Duneoctoberfest, a cage will be a prize.

Wonder if the Force is with me.
