New to all this stuff. Haven't even put fuel in my new KM Baja 5b yet, and per recommendations it's already got a @Killer RC Super Bee kill switch installed. Not sure if I did the installation right.

When I turn on the radio then receiver and after the Super Bee goes through start up cycle the LED on it is solid red indicating "engine killed via aux". If I press the channel 3 button on radio it does the red/green flash for "5 second kill period" and goes then goes solid green indicating "engine can run".

Is that normal operation? Would have thought that when first turning everything on it would go straight to solid green after start cycle. I have checked the channel on the radio and it is set to normal not reverse. Set it to reverse and it does go to green instead of red, but should I have to set it to reverse for it to do that?

While I'm asking what exactly is the 5 second kill period? I understand the rest of the status indicators, but that one...

Plan to start this thing up and break it in tomorrow. If I have any trouble I'm not above disconnecting the kill switch and doing without, but I'd prefer to have it functional.

Set it to reverse as for five sec kill I d rather have a switch set to push but to check how long that is just turn off transmitter and count

Yes that's normal. Different radios require changing a few settings.

The purpose of the 5 second kill period is mainly for Spektrum radios. If set up improperly a Spektrum reciever can override the kill switch and let the engine run during a radio glitch. The 5 second kill period makes sure the engine fully shuts down before that failsafe kicks in. Without the 5 second period it's possible for the kill switch to just kill the engine for a split second and then turn back on while the flywheel is still spinning, thus letting the engine fire back up by itself and run off. We added this feature to our kill switches several years ago. Learned from actual experiences.

If the light is solid green, you can start the engine. When you turn off the transmitter power or hit your Aux button, the Super Bee LED should turn red. That's it. Go test it. Then go run the car and have fun.

Thanks for the replies, I thought I had updated the post the other day. It kinda seemed like a safety feature when I made the original post, just couldn't figure out what it was for. It dawned on me a little after reading nitrocat's reply that the 5 second period was a safety feature to prevent an accidental restart.

Set the aux channel to reverse and the kill switch works like a champ. Now I just have to remember that a 2-cycle motor doesn't care if it's upside down, flipping onto the lid doesn't mean I need to shut it off.

The little sucker is quicker than I was expecting. Handles pretty good until the tires dig in on a turn and it starts barrel rolling. That's mostly a matter of me learning to control it and possibly finding better tires for the grassy field I am currently running it in. If I'm not working and it's not raining this weekend I plan to go run a couple tanks through it.

Yeah, I haven't even touched those yet. Aside from adding your Killer Kables, and the KM shock covers the suspension is stock. Was planning to try that next time I got it out, but more important obligations keep coming up.
