Has anyone taped their tires to keep them from ballooning up at speed? How many layers did you use? What kind of tape?

I'm planning on using two layers of the black gorilla tape and see how that works.

You can do either or both. Just be careful too much tape can cause balance issues. If you only tape the foam the tire will still balloon away from the foam. Another option is to tape the foam and glue it to the tire.

So I taped up my Losi XXL brushless tires first and all I can say is it makes a huge difference! At speed it is so much more controllable. Can't see any ballooning at all. On 4S I'm hitting 41 mph. On 6S 57 mph. Next is the rampage tires. At 60mph they balloon huge! I used one layer of gorilla tape.

So did you tape the Tires or the foams?

The problem I've seen with taping the tires, is no amount of cleaning or proper taping has kept the tape on the tire for a long time, doesn't seem to stick to the rubber over the long haul...everytime I have taken apart a tire I've taped inside of, tape has mostly come off.

taping tires

I taped the tire. We'll see how long is holds up. I messed up one and had to peel the tape off. it was pretty hard to take the tape off.

Looks like the tape is coming loose in a few places. At higher speeds the bulges appear. I have about 20 runs in. I guess I'll just have to live with tire ballooning in the future.

another option is to use Zero growth foams from Hostile....don't know if they would fit the trenchers though...
