My humble opinion on racing large scale.
I feel it can't be ran like 1/10 scale races. In the sense of NO marshaling These cars are to big to heavy and to dangerous to have anyone on track flipping them over under green flag conditions.
Solution Run it like QSAC racing which is more like full scale. Run by lap not by clock. if a crash comes out yellow comes out then red and a person enters the track to flip car, then leaves green flag drops.
I think this might even need to be a thread topic of its own. I am not being negative Wes @ OFF Knows I want to race and I am a racer. I am trying to make this safety point so large scale racing can start off on right foot here in USA. I don't want to see people hurt and lawsuits kill the sport here before it gets going good.
I see 1/10 scale people moving to the 1/5 scale cars and new track in AZ and people on the track with these big cars on You tube Come on guys We as the old timers of RC got to take a stand and address this so it can be a safe and fun as it can bo to keep it growing.

I totally agree. It's way to dangerous to have marshalls on the track or even very near it without a blocker of some kind. Keeping the hobby safe with larger vehicles should be on everyones mind. Just take one look at the new titanium Integy bumper for the 5b. Looks very nice ! If it hit you even at low speeds, I'll bet it takes stitches to close the wound & possibly worse. The weight & speeds of these vehicles, require some better safety.

i don't think i have ever seen a marshall injured over here yet.

we have strict rules regards to what the cars are allowed to have and must have, like plastic front bumpers, exhausts which MUST be fully enclosed so you cannot burn your hands on them etc (also cars must have killswitches fitted). also all marshalling points must be enclosed from the passing cars ie: hay bales, steel cages or some form of large heavy suty barrier. also people under 16 are banned outright from marshalling.

anything is dangerous in the wrong hands, even a tea spoon. you need to have a similar rule system to the brca/EFRA lsor rules

Re Kill Switches, talk to the guys a Rossendale Models...... they claim that kill switches are not required and don't understand why you would need them. Richard, Stevo and Bob stiles (KCR) all race in the UK with MCD V4's and none of them run a kill switch!

Stupid but true.

I have just ordered a kill switch following seeing pictures of a guy on the MCD Racing Forum (Ian) who has an 8 week old V4 with Stevo tuned 28.5 and it hit a wall due to a faulty on/off switch that glitched. 40mph into a brick wall, believe me the car is in bits nothing as far as I know has been salvageable. PaulB might have some news on that as he lives close to Ian.

You don't have any brick walls on a track tho. 40mph into a hay bale - I reckon you would get away with very minimal damage. Racing is a completely different environment to bashing.

I agree with this, & know many people who do Not use a kill switch or a external failsafe when racing. The possible shutdown, or servo interruption could mean a race loss, if the units have any kind of glitch. Most dedicated track cars get treated a bit different than bashers.

Fair play Dwarfy but aaean was saying that in the UK rules for racing require the fitment of a kill switch, I know this is the case racing in Australia and USA but in the UK there is no rule stating you should run a kill switch otherwise the guys at Ross mods would surely not only fit them but sell them. Fact is when you ask them about kill swtiches they look at you as though you have two heads and question the sanity of it. They also sell large scale cars that are used more for bashing as well as racing! They should be promoting the fitment of Kill Switches, I'll bet the majority of cars they sell are for bashing rather than racing.

sorry by killswitch i mean the ignitor switch must be acessiable as per the rules above.

i run a fail safe with a killiable switch on channel 3. for the £40 odd they are they are well worth it, seen a ca go byebye off our track and into the great unkown (miles of feilds around out old track, cleared a good quater mile wid open throttle before it met a dyke)

I agree...

Even the 1/8 scale buggies can hurt ya...and I Know how heavy my 5b is with all the billet parts...definatley break an ankle and maybe worse...I would not want to be a marshal, I would wear shin gaurds and you would have to pay me...lol:p
