can anyone recomend a good 2.4 radio system wheel type prefeared theres a lot arouind and don't want to buy a bad set mid price range would be better any recomendations welcome

I've never had a problem with the Spektrum DX3s, though other people have had range issues with it.

i have also heard good things about the Ansman 2.4 radio gear which seems to be a very good price

The DX3R is the uses the latest Spektrum technology and is a very good radio. I use the Etronix Pulse 3 channel, it is not the most expensive but it has good range and easy to understand menus, it has done me well so far and I will be racing with it next season.
 
Etronix Pulse EX3G 2.4GHz, but failsafe does not work

I bought an Etronix Pulse EX3G 2.4GHz so I didn't have to bother with who was on what freq. I also bought a failsafe (non Etronix). However with the failsafe in line to a servo the servo will not move at all. I tried the failsafe with a standard 40Mhz system and it worked absolutely fine. With the Etronix system (with no failsafe unit) when the handset is switched off the servos return to the mid position, however this does not apply the brakes (Not unless I have the brakes jammed on at mid servo position). I'm not sure what will happen should the servo battery voltage get low, ie will the servos move to the mid position or just get sluggish and stop anywhere. So it looks like standard failsafes won't work with the EX3G. I don't know whether to buy the Etronix failsafe, will I get the same result?
Has anyone any experience with Etronix? Comments?

Does the Etronix not have its own built in fail safe that you can set? Check the instruction manual and/or the menu settings. If you are also using an in-line fail safe you will be confusing it.

I have read the manual, its only one page. It doesn't mention failsafe in the manual or on the box. If it did have a proper failsafe I'm sure it would have been mentioned as a selling point. Pity it didn't mention that you can't use in line failsafes with it though.
If the Rx is sending a pulse width servo position command why does having an in line failsafe stop the servo from working? Surely a standard failsafe monitors the pulse width signal and takes action if it fails to recieve one. Any 2.4Ghz techies out there?

The etronix is a rebranded code core rc. The Core rc doesn't say it has a built in failsafe but if you go through the menus on the handset you should find it. 99% of 2.4ghz sets have them.
 
i like the look of the futaba 3pl. its an fhss spektrum, and the 3+1 channels is very interesting for us large scalers. its a 3 channel radio with a 4th for channel mixing. this means you can run front and rear brakes on seperate channels but with channel mixing, and a 3rd channel killswitch. or for anyone with a rock crawler you can run rear steer and a dig unit. it seems like a cheap radio, however it seems to have all the essential functions, and extra receivers are decently priced.
