Ever since I put a CY engine in my KM baja Ive had radio reception problems. The failsafe keeps kicking in, but only when the engines running and at some revs. It doesn't come back out of failsafe mode until I've switched off and on either the RX or TX.

So far Ive replaced the receiver box due to a broken aerial on the original, but the problems still there.

The only thing I can think of is the magneto on the CY engine might be producing a stronger spark than the one on the KM engine, and is interfering with the receiver? Does that ever happen?

I am considering swapping the KM magneto onto the CY engine to test it, but Im a bit reluctant to possibly reduce the spark power.

Is there anything I could do to the receiver to help stop possible interference?
 
Don't know if this will help, and haven't tried it myself, but somewhere in the 'smallprint' of radio gear I read that the antenna / aerial of the Rx must be higher than anything else metallic / made of metal.

had same problem a few days ago

ehy!!! i had same problem a few days ago it was a loose or broken connector in my battery pack. put a new pack in and seems to work fine:D Thanks LSF for all the advise to assist me in tracking down my issue

It only does it when the engines running though, if it was the battery it should do it all the time

when the engine is running it jiggled my broken tab around making all my electronics cut in and out !! it worked fine when my engine was off and nothing was moving. Iam using a spektrum dx3 and sr3000, and my failsafe was kickin on and off ans i would only loose power for a second when the broken tabe moved
 
Did your old spark plug lead have a metal shield round it and the new engine does not...I know the connection to the spark plug is the main point of power transfer hence the worst for giving off interference. FG sell metal plug shields for this reason......

check plug is tight connections in plug lead is also tight..If all else fails try borrowing a set from somebody and see if its the same...no point in splashing out on new gear if you still have the problem...although a 2.4ghz set will compensate a lot for this..

I had a similar problem in an old nitro..the car would glitch when running hard and it turned out to be how all the radio gear had been crammed into the radio box..power cables..i.e battery was sat far too close to the Ariel.try keep them as far apart as possible...not always easy in a small box..
 
I think it's your battery conection mate, or the battery itself.
I helped Tnxman with his problem and sounds like the same with yours like he said in an earlier post. Try another battery first or check yours for bad connections.
The problem happens when the engine is running with alot of vibration from your motor causing the bad connection to come apart.

I'll check that out tomorrow. The engines been misfiring even though its new and I cant find a fault - I think its been the killer bee causing the misfire, which I guess it would do if it was getting a low voltage?

I say I think its been the killer bee as I haven't had a chance to drive it - revved it up in the garden here today without killer bee and I think it was fine.

I will stick a multimeter onto the battery and prod about it to see if I have any voltage drop. Maybe the connection to one of the cells is dodgy.
