hi just got this buggy. it is slow on take off until about 40 feet out and then it sounds like its pulling. it wont even squat down in the rear or spin the tires at all. i have the low end needle leaned out and it sounds good with the tires off the ground. have u guys changed clutch springs to stiffer ones or the pipe? i got this used and it have a baja 5t exh pipe (stock) on it
 
the stock clutch spring shouldnt perform like you described it could be failing or faulty you should start with the motor check it over good! see if you can see anything out of the ordinary! check for loose bolts, gaskets, any metal shavings or gunk buildup?? then you can go thru the drivetrain and driveline check your dogbones make sure theirs no pins missing, turn the wheels and see if theirs any binding turn one back wheels and see if the other turns the opposite way, bearing can be binding, then you can look at the gearplate and gears, again make sure no binding, check if the layshaft is straight also check your tooth count like racetruck said the a and b gears should total 60 tooth, and the c and d gears should total 50 tooth count the gears should have the tooth count marked on thr gears??? check it out and let use know what you come up with??
 
the gearing was like this. 31/29...25/25


im thinking it should be 29/31 which would be the cause of my problem.


i switched them but when i tightened the middle set it wouldnt turn unless i loosened it up an 1/8 of a turn.i put loctite on it .

Also make sure your gears line up I had to put a brass washer behind my b&c gears to line them up with the a&d gears.

Yes their not perfect. Mine would need the same. But I'm still binding if I tighten up the middle set.u
 
You should pull the b and c gear hub off and make sure the gears are sitting flat on the aluminum hub mine were crooked because when I slide them onto the aluminum hub it scraped off alittle plastic that got stuck between the hub and gears making them bind... Then you can put a washer/spacer made from soft metal like brass or aluminum on the shaft then bolt the gears and hub back check see if the gears turn smooth.
 
make sure you don't tighten the B and C gear shaft to much if you have the plastic trans mount. I had my bearing melt into my trans mount before because it was to tight.
 
The problem is that there is no spacer between the two bearing on that shaft, you need to make a spacer, then you can tight it properly without binding.
 
Thanks Martin.ill take a look at that. For noe I left it 1/4 turn from tight and double nutted it
