I followed the hobby for a few years before I got in it in 06. Its gonna make me sound old but heres some of the things I remember that were big deals when they came out:

4200 NIMH

full set of bearings

metal gear trannies

waterproof rc

1/5 offroad gasoline (5b)

brushless 540 motors

brushless 1/8 motors

2.4 ghz

Lipo

Short course

What are some of the big deals you guys remember?

Way back in 06? hehe My first rc was the original rc10.. 1985:eek: I remember the birth of losi (as a company) the jrx2.. had one too.. electronic speed controls... Magnum JR .. the Airtronics XL2P ... I saw HPI emerge.. I had a "super F1" !! Actually I saw a ton of companies emerge.. I saw hitech gain a positive reputation.. as well as traxxas .. both used to be total jokes to the racer crowd...

jammin jay halsey drove the bomber car in that clint eastwood flick.. um I cant remember the name... the car was an rc10.. the dead pool? maybe..

ah, rc history..

I remember seeing spy pics of the tmaxx... The Tmaxx+RTR=change rc forever... I hated RTR.. well at first.. eventually I realized the positives far outweigh the negatives..

Frog, hornet, and grass hopper all filled my stable in the eighties and then came associated with the rc10 and flipped my world over. I remember putting balloons on my servos and speed control to try and keep them dry. poor quality plastics. and true kit form rc cars that you built from the ground up forcing you to have some knowledge of you vehicle.

I got out of it in the early nineties. Back in in 2001 with an HPI RS4 which sucked the big one and I got out again until 2006.Technology is awesome with digital servos ultra high torque with low energy consumption, programmable speed controls, brushless motors and on and on.

My current stable includes:

trax-ass stampede and slayer Not really a big fan of either.

three Mugen Seiki MBX5T prospec truggies, love them too death

three HPI drift cars, for my kid, not my bag of nuts

redcat MT and dune runner, something to work on over and over and over and over...........

hopefully will include the Killer Krawler by the end of the summer.

I remember getting my first pack of matched 1800 mah nicads for racing. these were going to kick my 1200 and 1400 mah packs for sure. My B4 worlds edition came with white parts. I sold my Marui Samurai to get my B4 and I watched nitro racing on video tapes for my first taste of racing with sound. we broke in and cleaned motors by dipping in a glass of water with power connected... I miss those days

How about those ESCs? Those wiper MSCs were before my time but I have tried a 3 position forward 1 reverse and it wasnt as bad as I thought it would be.

Even the higher voltage of nicads wasnt enough to keep them around?

I remember the first Traxxas Nitro 4Tec. Hit 50 MPH, if the tires didn't completely fall apart before then. Also, the Nitro RS4, which I had nothing but problems with. My first offroad RC's were the Traxxas Rustler, Stampede and an Associated B4. I remember when the first T-MAXX came out.

pull start

About 10 years ago i bought my 1rst nitro.I walked into a hobby shop and told the guy to give me the best one he had.he sold me one with a manual pull start..I got it started 1 time, after that i had no skin left between my fingers..never touched it again...It's still sitting in my storage unit spotless.Almost gave up the hobby for good...Then the losi came with an electric starter,I've been hooked ever since...

I raced a tamiya mini with the mechanical esc. I bought it, took it to the races, built it at my table and made it in for second round of qualifying. the others were faster so I just took them out when they tried to pass LOL
