RC vehicles as a tool? Trailer your stuff (like a 1/5 scale) to the place with an RC!

I’m wondering why people are talking about hiking their 1/5 scale rigs out that weigh a million pounds? It’s not the 90’s and we have the power to use RCs as tools!

What about parents with children? do you really want to carry your kids stuff or put it in a cart and let the kids fight about who is going to control the cart? Talk about wife acceptance factor!!!

Carrying a fifth scale or my own fishing gear is not something I ever wish to do again. My idea started back with my SCX6, I saw people riding on them and an idea clicked in my head. Fifth wheel hitch! Around that time a YouTuber HemiStorm just stretched an SCX6 4” and then I knew I had something. So I rigged up a device on my SCX6 (custom Aluminum C channel, 2 flange bearing, two pieces of DD steering shaft and a u joint), and I had my aluminum fishing cart connected in no time after printing a sleeve for the DDshaft.

Now I have outgrown the fishing cart for RCs, still use it for fishing, but I want to design a new trailer. I was thinking about possibly building it out of 80/20 aluminum extrusion with some extra features like a cooler full of beer, ramp, brakes, storage for tools and other cars, etc. with a size around 52” long by 34” wide. The Primal is 32” wide plus sides which should make it a zero clearance fit against the trailer walls.

I was wondering if anybody is doing something similar? If so what are you using for an axle? I was thinking about using a 36” DD steering shaft with flange bearings mounted two a 3D printed bracket.

Yes, I could just buy a Gorilla Cart like the one sitting unopened by my front door waiting to be returned to Home Depot because it is only 30” wide x 48” long and it’s rather heavy. Then I thought about installing a hinged ramp which would be more difficult with the Gorilla cart. Let’s be real a hinged, servo operated, ramp would be pretty cool and a hell of a lot easier to do with extrusion!

Also how are people hooking up trailers on RCs, pictures would be cool too. I’ve seen the old 1/14 haulers but I’m not impressed with the hookups.

Thanks and hopefully this makes other people think about building a trailer or cart that is pulled by an RC.

The third cart version will be a Chariot that gets pulled behind the 12s Raminator with me in it. I think it will work well to get to my best friends house a couple miles away.

Very creative …

I want to see your third version.

Thanks, I figure I got to take baby steps to figure out how my designs fail before I’m pulling myself at 35mph passing e-schooters, e-bikes, and one wheels.

I anticipate seeing your vision realized.

I agree, baby steps while testing within a control environment is best before committing yourself to a 2 mile quest.

Looks like a fun project.
