re ring PACE 23 race engine

hello chap's im have just stripped my PACE race engine to re ring it and i see the piston has been machined flat . what if any improvement does this make and would this mean the engine has a thinner gasket...the internal mods are all there just i don't see why the skimmed piston

yeah its the same in my 23cc oddified engine its flat top piston the gasket on mine is just a stock 4 bolt standard thickness one as for the flat top piston its got to be for extra power mines got holes in the side and the bottoms been machined out to lighten it
