I found out at last Sunday's bash that my TT needed some diff work, I thought I broke a drive cup. I pulled the rear diff apart today and found much to my surprise that the it was fine but the gear was toast, three pieces of toast to be exact and the pin was in two pieces. Of course it was the inside gear not the easy outside one. The reason for failure was I dropped the car from knee high at full throttle on to wet ground, extremely high traction.

I had a gear inside the diff do that, but I think there are upgraded gears in Update Kit. The updated ones have a slot for the bigger pin as well as the smaller pin. That is how you tell if you have the updated ones or not......I believe. Older, more brittle gears have only the smaller slot. At least with the old gears I broke.

That is quite an impressive failure! If your going to do it...do it big! I drive hard as well. Have not had that happen yet. I am sure it will! Great pictures!

wild hair I guess. I could say I was testing the limits of the drive train or testing how strong the drive cups were but I was just messin around.

I don't see why not Martin, what I did was much harder on the car then any bashing or racing. A 4ft drop while holding the throttle WFO onto a high traction surface and only breaking a diff gear, a first generation gear at that, shows how tough this car really is.
