Hey guys,

I've just bought a Marder in bits in a box that was REALLY badly listed on ebay. (So it was cheap)

I've used some of the bits from the truck I got to supply parts for another model i'm making. Bodged in the radio gear from my 1/10 nitro that I gave up on years ago. Got it to a stage where it runs, moves, and steers.

It has had a lot of use by the looks of it, so it is very worn.

I've never played with one before, and i've never seen one in the flesh before, so a) My back garden is no longer large enough, and b) Could someone do me some closeups of the rear transmission brake assy, and how the servo links to it? Same goes for the throttle cable - i've just bodged in a chainsaw cable for now and it's not good.

Also, is there a list of fragile bits anywhere? Front left lower susp arm already pops off the balljoint if you as much as look at it.

Plus, I don't seem to be getting full lock on the steering. Is this a common thing or is it possibly down to my servo? (It's a generic cheap big one)

Cheers

The steering may be coming down to your EPA (End Point Adjustment). Sometimes you will not be able to get the set up to your liking depending on the type of radio system you are running. You may also look at changing up where the linkage sits on the servo horn.

Good luck and get some photos linked up....

Photos sometime soon - it's not pretty.
Anyway, no epa, i'm currently running a Traxxas 27 meg wheel controller, thru a kyosho receiver to generic naff servos. I've already moved the steering rods to the end of the servo horn and moved in the track rods to the inner mounts on the front uprights. I think it might just be the slop in the system that's causing it, though the ackerman angle looks good when on lock. I'll see how it goes when my digi setup arrives.

Thanks for the input, but I think that's ok. When I put it together I had to open it up to get it on.
I think it's a combination of a lot of things - including rusted rose joints. They're all having a dunk in phosphoric acid atm to clean them up.

The steering was down to the gain being turned down on my Transmitter. Oops.
Took it out for a quick thrash yesterday. These things are ridiculous!
It lasted 10 mins before all the stuff i'd forgotten to threadlock fell off. Proper rapid lunacy tho'.

Can anyone quickly and simply explain to me which gear is which? Of the 4 gear wheels, obviously, one is the diff, but i'm not absolutely sure which is the pinion, which is the spur, and what's the other one called?

^Exactly as I needed to hear - thanks very much.

This means a BRICK has got between my PINION and SPUR and ALMOST COMPLETELY KNACKERED both of them.

Going to have to spend an hour or 3 with a NEEDLE FILE before the next run. D'oh.

(Sorry, couldn't resist):p

Finally got to the point where it's worth taking pics:

Shell is a grp one I made out of a new fg lexan one. Painted in the only rattle can I could find in the garage - Lancia Integrale red.
As of today, gone Digi too - Core Rc finally turned up.

Waiting for a gear cover - where we normally bash has lots of little bits of limestone gravel that gets stuck in the pinion/spur and chews them to hell - so next weekend probly.
