Hello all! My son and I got into RC's last November and found out it's a great hobby that we can enjoy together. Well it's more like he drives them and I get to fix whatever he breaks. So far we have a 1/10 scale electric and a 1/8 nitro that I picked up from the neighbor at a good price. They are fun but after I saw my buddys Baja 5b I was hooked on getting a 1/5 scale. Now if it were up to me I would have no problem dropping a grand or more on a MCD or FG but taking in the wife factor cuts me back to the 600-700 dollar range.

So on to my question. I've been following the new Redcats that just came out. Things I like are the 30cc motor combined with the lightweigh and the look, size and ground clearance of the MT. what I don't like is some of the problems they are having already. So far I saw a broken pullstart, exhaust pipe melted in half, and weak driveshafts.

As for the Nutech Sandstorm from zerogravity. It's about the same price as the redcat and so far from what I read it's a decent machine out of the box. I wasn't real crazy about the body at first but it's starting to grow on me. (from what I understand it's a TBll but with just a different shell?) I would prefer some more ground clearance but I'm guessing some bigger tires could cure that. I also don't see very many aftermarket pipes that fit the sandstorm. We have alot of large areas to run these cars and what we really want to do most of all is Hillclimbs!!! We live in the coal region of PA and have a ton of large coal banks that we would like to try climbing.

I welcome all suggestions, comments or answers that the great minds of LSF has to offer. I know you all have alot more experience then this noob, and I thank you in advance for your help! :cup-1:

I have 2 Nutechs and a Rampage v2 i love them both, the redcat is a little bit cheaper then the Nutechs,i would probally go with the Nutech most of the flaws have been worked out or wait a little while and im sure Redcat will have all there flaws worked out and save a little money,i love my Rampage its a great basher but i like my Nutech better for racing around the track.

ive been following nutech for a little while now and they seem to be a very proactive company, any problems reported to them get addressed quick, which is excellent in my opinion.

have you considered second hand? you will be amazed what you dollar will get you for a pre loved rc, just check the sale section, im sure you could get a used FG (my preference :D) or MCD with hop ups for that kind of money. if you only want to start new id go a Nutech, some really exciting stuff coming out of their factory ATM.
