what does it do? it looks like just a longer intake. is their a substantial amount of power increase. thinking about sending one of my 23's out to get ported to match a reed kit but not sure what to expect

i have been wanting to know the same thing. i have been told that unless you have trevor simpson, the reed kit is a waiste, but i would like to know more.

the trevors are about $150 wich is fine, but you need a ts ported head to match wich kills me.. i was looking at the o'neils reed kits. i can send them a new 23 to match port, but i just don't know what it does, or how it works.. its kinda like putting shocks on your car, but not knowing why.. :D

The first engine I put in my MT was a 27.2 reed, (zenoah 260 with a stroked stuffed crank windowed piston and reed block. It's a great upgrade from stock but you will get way better performance out of a simple 28.5 race ported top end kit for a lot less money. :) I should say that the reed was better than the 28.5 when used with stock cans but when I installed pipes the 28.5 woke up a lot more than the reed.

im sure i'll get more out of a 28.5, but im bored with that and want to build off the stock23 in my tt. do know if it helped with any low-end punch or what areas it helps in?high/lows.. is it just making your intake ports larger and longer. wich i would assume helps all around perfomance. but im not sure. if i know how the reed kit works i will know what carb, crank and flywheel to put on, thanx

I got a reed motor in my fg, ported 28.5 ONB...it's going in my TT with a 77 dom:D, the reed makes a slight difference over the ported 28.5, it's supposed to broaden and flatten the torque curve, it's hard to tell running the engines in different machines...once my tt arrives I'll be able to compare the 2 side by side.

I will say that the port job is totally different to a regular 28.5 port job. I'm tearing it down for new crank bearings and seals so will take some pics shortly

were gona have some good weather tomorrow. thats a pretty crazy mill. you should be able to gear up and gain some top end. that will also take some "relief" off the drive train.

LOL, have fun with that powerplant, can't wait to hear you tomorrow  ........too much power......too much torque......bent my chassis and broke everything that attaches to it.......modded / ported 30.5cc?........priceless :D

DDM engine snaps chinese made (sweat shop) RC in half from to much torque....that would be totally awesome. If it does, you guys can watch me run it over with my Tundra...all on video.

Here's what i think...not that it means eff all...a ported 30.5 makes a bit more torque than a ported 28.5...we're not talking night and day difference here... a dom 28.5 will knock out as much if not more than a xcan 30.5, I think a reed ported 28.5 is not much off..if any...a ported 30.5, I don't think a well sorted ramp will have much trouble with a ported 30.5 any more than a well piped 28.5....we'll see how a reed ONB 28.5 goes when my tt arrives as I have such an engine sitting on the bench waiting for it. anyhow i really don't believe a 30.5 is going to be a drivetrain killer

Yeah, my ONB ported 30.5 is working just fine in the Rampage MT. It deffinately has an ass ton of torque...it started to kick out sideways on pavement when it gets on the pipe. :D

Maybe I should jusst gear up to 29/31...
