Anyone used over cleaner? I watched a few youtube videos on it and I'm about to tackle some of the orange parts from my Km29cc car this evening.

yea i used to remove anodising on my bmx parts , i would use costic soda get a metal bucket put a small amount of soda in it pour some hot water in the bucket and dunk the parts in it, remember put the parts in on the end of a coat hanger or some wire, not by hand:nuke:were goggles to, oh and do it outdoors.

yeah ive used oven cleaner works well but keep a eye on it i had a couple of bits turn black i just used a brilo pad after it cleans it up a treat

to long only joking cant realy remember but if i was doing it again i would check every 5/10 mins i think i left it about 30 mins just keep a eye on it get a little tooth brush and work it all in soak it check it brush it it don't all come off at once

Yeah it's working, one piece turned coal black but it came right off with super fine steel wool. One piece seems to be better coated and is being stuburn. And my caps are stuck on so sorry for the cap locks!:p

i think it just reaction when the air gets to it it does come off easly i used brilo pad thet seem to leave it nice and shiney no need to polish them up after that

The acidity burns the outside face of the ally if its left long enough. The steel wool just polishes off the face to give you the good metal underneath.

oven cleaner works ok.
but still the best method is a Lye solution.

get a can of draino drain cleaner (granuales) and mix 1/2 cup draino with 2 qrts Warm water. mix well (use rubber gloves and googles as LYE will eat your skin as will easy off oven cleaner, the lye just does it more effeciently and quicker. lol).

drop parts in gently to not splash. i use aluminum wire for stripping the small parts. wire them up on the aluminum wire, so the parts doesn't fall off the wire into the lye solution. and dunk as them all as one piece. remove any items as they are cleared of ano.

some parts will be clear within seconds (literally, some pieces will lose all ano with in 10 to 20 seconds) while other parts like the chassis and motor plate tend to take minutes. i do use a brush to scrub the parts, as often the ano layer will loosen up, but need to be brushed off.

if your parts are turnig black, be very carefull. you are actually LOOSEING aluminum and part size. as aluminum corrodes in the solutions, it will turn black. the scummy part of it is the ano layers, the black stuff is disolved aluminum.

really if you wait for the parts to turn black your waiting to long and weakening the parts by loosing the mass.

I got em all done. i think i will go with the draino if it works that well. it took longer than i thought. I used foam oven cleaner and a SOS pad. They turned out nice, pics to come. I hit em with mothers polish and polished em for a few just to get em super shiny. I am going to do all the parts on the car but will use draino tomorrow and see which works better. On a lighter not i had enough oven cleaner to clean my oven as well so the wife will be happy as well:p
