Revisit spurs and pinions

Hi I recently posted about my 68t spur on my MtXl grinding in my aftermarket chassis so I went with a 61t spur which eliminates my grinding issue but I after throwing my motor back in I notice my pinion doesn’t reach my spur any longer, do I need a larger pinion to now mesh with the smaller spur? What suggestions would you make? I think the MtXl ships with a 17t

You should have plenty of power to jump up in gear size with that engine. How far off is the mesh? I'm running a 20 tooth in a ported by me g320 in my dbxl. You should have a good bit more power, so imo a 19 or 20 may be where to start.
Yes I know you have a mtxl just thinking about power vs the gearing
