if your talking about the rear cage yes its important, protects the plug and puts less stress on the engine mounts in a roll.

i'd say its for show. I got it for my MT but sold my MT before i could ever use it.

For Show... In the event of a serious crash, it pokes holes through the body. Light crashes, the roll bar takes the hit and scratches instead of the roof.

the roll bar makes the whole chassis more sturdy & almost 0 flex at the front of chassis.

If you wanna see what i mean, take the roll bar off & press down the center of chassis, you will see flex in the chassis, try it with the roll bar on, almost 0 flex \o/

The rollbar on the truck body is more for show, the light pods will handle a small rollover but not a heavy rollover.

I've modded mine to be more in keeping with a real MT, so it's only a single hoop, with the bars going onto the actual chassis roll bar, just sliding in.

Unwittingly, I've (generally grip-) rolled my MT a few times, and the roll bar has definitely held up, and probably protected the body to some extent from scratches.

I do believe what Trip says, that with a HEAVY hit, the bar may punch through the body, but that again shows no sign at the moment - the F150 body is one tough nut !!

Yes the factory roll bar that covers the chassis is very important. Sorry.
