Well I finally decided to paint my marder shell in the Paris-Dakar Rothmans Porsche 959 livery, like the 80's tamiya model :cool2: This way I can use my existing white wing with the blue sides. As the tamiya was such a good replica & colour match Ive just spent 3hrs finding the original tamiya paint colours  Anyway got em now so will be purchasing the paint this weekend & starting the mask up job. This will be my 1st paint job in more than 1 colour so any tips will be gratefully received!!

Ive heard about having to back spray the colours with white or silver. Anyone got any tips on this!

patience is the key. it's the toughest thing to learn to do, me included as I am very impatient. spray light coats... usual wash before starting. always let fully dry and double check the dges of the mask before spraying the next color. I've had bleed through enough times to finally realize what I should be doing but still don't alway (impatience lol). spray darkest colors first and go light... you can change the color you see slightly with what you back it with. black backing makes it darker, white lighter, silver is between with good reflection. chrome should be backed with black.... pearls go super light

hit an autobody supply and get good masking tape. it makes a huge difference. and it lasts a long time. draw the design on the outside first over the overspray coating (if it has it) .. if it doesn't have overspray protection then erasable marker works, then cover the outside with clear kitchen wrap to keep overspray off the outside... putting your hand in a plastic bag to hold the body helps keep paint off yourself too

Cheers Pipe! Im probably like you being impatient :clown: I am determined to get it right tho so I will make myself go steady! Ive just found a download for the Porsche text font so I can print my own decals :cool2:

did you check the guy on ebay for the stickers mate? :cool2:

I had a look at his ebay shop & bookmarked it cheers matey! I might have a go at doing my own tho, will see how frustrated I get with getting the font styles right

dwarfy.
Ive got a sticker cutting machine if you need any help with them. it cost me too much money everytime i pranged my rally car to replace them so i decided to buy the machine to do it and do them myself..! but ive hardly needed it since i bought it. ha.

I found that if you are going to do some intricate masking on the inside, to draw on the outside (where the overspray film is) with a marker as a template.
Good luck, can't wait to see it...
Chris

Ive sorted the text fonts & logos for the decals :) They are near enough for me :clown:

Just need to adjust the sizes & colours to what I need & should be ok!! Im gonna print some off on plain paper & try em for size & location.

Id do it with stickers if i was you and just stick them on your shell and pick the lettering out. spray it then peel it off. would be better than doin it with bits of paper i think.but thats just me. haha.
