So I whiffed a jump and landed smack on the lid of my baja and crushed the plug hard into the head. Piston looks ok, but after sticking another plug in I don't think Its making good compression so its time to rebuild or replace it.

Is it worth rebuilding it or not? An entirely new engine is 100 bucks, so I'm just curious if there are rebuild options that might get me more power out of it or if I should just get a new one, or maybe even get a rovan 32cc engine for 150

Nice .....the rovan 36 in my baja screams, only like 175 bucks,. Came stock in my terminator baja truck from fearless rc

How much more power do they have over the 29?

I've heard the dual ring motors can be a little problematic as well your having good luck though?
 
Just finished 1/2 hour run on it after a disappointing hour with the revo 3.3. Ran great last year and just can't find it's sweet spot right now. The baja 36cc /terminator/red baron has become my favorite truck. The engine has a velocity stack, air filter and outerwears covers , l think all from Detroit rc. I did throw an nkg plug in this year. The original pipe got crushed/cracked open so l got a different one from fearless. It's kinda small but l see zero difference in performance. In my opinion, it's very dependable, very fast and believe me l ain't babying it. Carb could use a tickle but just to strong to play with....... It fires up on forth pull from day one, even after sitting all winter. If it blows up, doubtful, l will throw another 36 in all day long....You have crash damage which is different situation. All l would not do is buy the chrome 36cc. Depending on your budget yes l would recommend the 36. As a comparison, l had a o.g. hpi baja sc with l think was the 29 fueli back then and as a whole, it can't come close to this beasty....
 
I have the 36 that came with the Rovan SLT v1. For the price, a great motor if on a budget. The carb is great so far. and it fires right up with zero issues. o

36cc it is. I think I might do the metal roll bar as well. Lets not have this problem again.
 
OK, so i have the lower case for this sitting around and I'm considering trying to build something that isn't poop.

I know some people stroke and put big bore kits on them. Are there any guides out there I can look at for what works with this and what doesn't? I've rebuilt them by replacing the jug but I've never tried anything like this and I want to see how it goes on a dead engine without breaking a good one.
 
Fearless just had a huge clearance sale with a ton of Rovan engines and parts for them. Some complete or missing something and some with issues. You may want to shoot them an email or check out what he has and is getting rid of. I noticed some of the engines were sold in lots. Might be a place to start if you're wanting to build on the Rovan lower case. Just an idea...

Saw that. I have a new engine coming for it, I was just wanting to experiment and see what I could build with this otherwise junk engine. I just don't know how to determine what works with what.

I've seen some of the guys using that new fujiwara kit on the 320 mixing it with longer stroke cranks and stuff. I was just curious if there was a guide out there that said what will work with what.

It's the stock 29cc out of the rovan buggy.

I found something yesterday about being able to fit a +2mm crank but there's no way without a riser or a shorter rod but none of it was mentioned. I'm pretty sure it was from one of those goofy AI generated pages though because I couldn't find anything else about it or find the page again

So it was correct. Is there a company that sells the parts you guys would recommend or do I need to piece it together from other engines
 
Be careful putting a longer stroke in it. You stand a pretty good chance you will have to machine the cylinder to allow for this.
It also changes port timing and longer stroke will not have as high of a top end RPM as a short stroke.
Depending on what you are running it in you might want the higher RPM and just have to sacrifice somewhere else.

Might not be as simple of a bolt on as you think so just be sure to do your homework.
 
With the Rovan engines it IS as simple as bolting the parts together . No machining required , The longer stroke is built into the 32 cylinder .
Just crankshaft piston , rings and cylinder changed .
Done it so I know what is involved.
