Hi everyone, newbie here!

Recently I my mate passed me a rovan Baja 5B with the rovan 29cc engine as he's quitting, so I tend to messed it around with some past failed project of converting the HPI Savage 5T nitro to a Monster truck with Redcat rampage MT wheels and bodyshell due to some reasons.

Realizing FG used to have 2WD monster trucks and runs pretty well, so why not on the 5B!

Here's some pics of progress, and still waiting for front axle shaft pin for installing the 22mm hex adaptor for the front wheels.

Tell me what you guys think? Or had anyone done this before on a 5B platform?

Very very cool !!!! I have the rovan terminator with a baja bug body and some other upgrades.
Has become my go to rc, beat the snot out of the poor thing..... parts cheap and sky is the limit on upgrades.

Yes, the price of spares costs like nothing if you get them from China Taobao. Currently have plans to upgrade the stock steering and engine to 45cc if the chassis hold well to the MT tires.

The front axle arrived! Bring her out for a spin on asphalt and she moves no problem. Only issue is with the new tires which don't seemed balanced and wheel wobbles especially at the front. Ran for few more circles seems to be better somehow...needs more run time I guessed.

The 29cc engine looks adequate (45cc will be awesome!), however need to upgrade the clutch springs to 8000rpm for better low end grunt. Stock steering definitely needs to be replaced with newer symmetrical steering hardwares. Need upgrade the brakes as well but doesn't know at the moment which upgrade is good. Definitely a keeper.

I recommend the rovan plastic symmetrical kit....Amazon and ebay aluminum kits are junk .Also rovan carries the hpi bolt on front spindles that eliminates the c-clip.Check out my rovan baja red baron build.

Hi Mick. Thanks for the recommendations for the symmetrical steering kit, will look out for them. As for the spindle, I think mine is the same which eliminates the c-clip...just I don't know what terms to explain them thus use axle. Lol

Will go check it out of your red baron build... Cheers!!!

I was about to order that rovan alu symmetrical kit...thanks for the heads up! You referring to this plastic kit?

And regarding the steering servo, I upgraded with another HV version but size slightly longer than stock servos by 4-5mm and I have to modify to fit. Does this kit fits aftermarket servos?

This is the one l used. I'm running stock rovan servo. I believe my happy birthday to me thread has all the details for the installation and l think the servo arm is dual sided for servo teeth count. It was basically a bolt in . Been about 2 years now but l think the square adapters will place servo correctly.....like the servo whole is oversized but the adapter takes care of that.
