I have a Redcat Dunerunner 4X4 that started running away at full throttle. Last week in the middle of a run, it ran away at full throttle and crashed into a fence post. I was able to shut it off with the Killer Bee kill switch but it was too late. Yesterday I started it and it ran away at full throttle as soon as it started and hit a concrete block.I shut it off with the kill switch but again, it was too late. When I recovered it, the throttle servo was at full throttle. I turned everything back on and the servo went bach to it's neutral position and wouldn't malfunction (stick). Of course, I didn't try to run it again....my wife wouldn't let me LOL. I am using the stock servos and a Futaba Tx and Rx.
Can anyone help me with suggestions of what might be causing this all of a sudden? Thanks guys.

Very sorry its happened.
Welcome to LSF.

Are you sure all of the electronics are set-up correctly?

Is the failsafe set?
Is the Killer Bee on the right channel - steering or other, but NOT throttle/brake I believe?

Yup, all the electronics are setup correctly. Been running it this way for two months. Killer Bee is connected to channel 3 and killed motor as intended when I threw channel 3 switch.

Try rebinding the radio. Also check your reciever antenna where it attaches to the circut board it may be loose. Leave your failsafe at nutral.

Are you turning on the transmitter first and then the receiver?

Try to reproduce the problem, with and without the engine running.

What model radio is it? What does the Super Bee do, and also what do the servos do when you turn off the transmitter power button?

First of all, thanks for your response.
I have not been able to reproduce the full throttle sticking without the engine running. Haven't had a chance yet. However the servo is quite, SKITTERY, I'll call it. When I slowly pull the radio trigger, the servo doesn't move smoothly. It kind of jerks all over the place. I suspect the servo is bad.
I am running a Futaba T3PRKA Tx and a R-203GF Rx both new about a month ago. Bought to extend my range.
When you turn off the transmitter power, the killer goes into alarm and the throttle goes to neutral position.
Yes, I always turn the Tx on first before applying power to the receiver and starting the engine.
Thanks again.

Thanks Cordy. No, I haven' checked the antenna connection since the Rx is under warranty and I don't want to open it up.
Yes, I rebound the radio and it didn' change a thing.
What do you mean by "leave the failsafe at neutral"?

Yes, the electronics are set up correctly...I believe. The Killer Bee is on channel 3 which is switched on the outside of the Tx so you can activate the kill manually, which is what I did when it ran away. By the "failsafe" do you mean the one in the Rx? Is that also supposed to be set when using the Killer Bee? Thanks for your help.

Even with a Super Bee kill switch I still like to set up the receivers failsafe to make the servo apply about 50% brake during a glitch.

It might be something as simple as changing the plug.
Make sure its the correct 'R' rated one - resistance not racing!

Al.

Yes, the Killer RC glitch theorem. ;)
Sometimes a spark plug can have a bad resistor inside, and it can cause lots of radio noise and weird issues. I recommend using a NGK CMR7H spark plug on most cars. http://www.killerrc.com/product/spark-plug/

That's exactly the plug I use. I bought a new servo today and ran the car on the stand. Ran fine. Next step is to give it a go on an open field. Here's hoping.

Thanks a lot. Bought a new Savox today & installed. So far so good. Ran fine on the stand. Next comes the field trip.

It'll more than likely be ok now you have replaced the servo. These things have serious vibration from the motor and mine did exactly the same with a shite servo and had a hefty bill on my hands.
Good luck and keep us informed.
J;)

just for reference for anyone who reads this down the line with the same problem

the stock servos in hsp rampage/blackout/skeleton/dunerunner are dung, especially the throttle servo, when the motor is running the mag/coil/spark must interfere with the th servo.
one thing i do know is the th servo WILL fail, usually within a tank or 2, usually much sooner...steering servos are the same (but don't seem affected by electrical interference) they can last a while..or not, they're a crap shoot

second thing i know is no matter where you are a runaway will always find something immovable to hit..you can be in the middle of a 100acre field that has 1 pole in it, in a corner or right in the middle, it matters not, and guaranteed you will hit it

Thanks to all of you for your help. I ran the car on a really big soccer field yesterday. I had no issues and it ran fine with the new servo. I'm happy now.
