Hey everyone, I was pumped about buying a Redcat MT but after reading about them on here I'm wondering if its a good deal or not. I don't mind spending $700.00 on the truck but the way I see it I'm gonna have another couple hundred or so just to make it a good truck, new radio, new servos, kill switch, steel gears, gear backing plate, pipe, and so on and on WTF are these trucks junk out of the box or am I just freaking out for nothing, I really want to get into the gas scale trucks, I'm very tired of nitro, but I don't want to spend my hard earned cash and be dissapointed, HELP ME OUT PLEASE!!!!! I live in Ohio kinda between Columbus and Cleveland is there anyone or anyplace in my area where I could go and get a good look at one of these trucks. Thanks

nice collection racetruck.

rpking i see it this way - Nitro fuel $30/gallon. Gas/oil mix $4/gallon tops.

Both nitro and gas trucks will break parts....

servos/electronics go bad on many rtr nitro and gas trucks too, just run them and replace as needed. Also, the 2.4ghz redcat radios are fine for most people. I had one with a 1/5 scale KM buggy and it was sufficient.

Collection, 3 of those are mine.Lmao

don't be scared just consider it ARTR. I would take it apart and loctite all the important parts (cvds etc) immediatly. Set carb to stock settings. Expect to replace, remove, or repair the MT body, they are brittle. The TT body holds up very well. Check for any assembly irregularites.

Rampage specific mods youll need right away:

1.Remove or vent gear cover

2.Replace steering servos / throttle servo

3. HPI baja air filter

4. On/off switch

Things youll need for any brand 1/5th scale that you don't prob wont get with it new:

1. 3 channel 2.4 radio

2. 3rd channel kill switch

3. Receiver batt w. charge lead (at least 3000mah) Kind estimate 650mah per tank, I average 480mah

4. pull start cover

5. a good digital charger for RX batt

Thats pretty basic. Anyone else?

don't be scared, just be aware,1/5th scales are not for everyone. they are not a stampede or a tmaxx. they are not a truck you can break out of the box and expect perfection. they are big, heavy, powerful, rcs that are gonna take work (and $$$)to get to your liking. thats part of the fun of owning one. its all part of the hobby. think of it as the next level of rcs . i have done my fair share of muther fu@#ing my rampage but now that its set up right i love it and i would never buy another nitro.

unless you are a hardcore basher then i wouldnt worry about it. No matter what you drive..nitro, gas or electric there is always pre run inspections. Im running a mt v1 with stock plastic gears and engine. Besides the drilled holes in the gear cover and plastic gear servos cheap hitecs. I haven't touched a thing....

Hey, Thank you everyone for taking the time to set me straight, I tend to over think and worry too much. Just do it, right, I know there will be stuff that breaks and stuff that I want to make better and stronger that is the fun of it all. I know if and when I do have problems that you folks will help me. This place is the best and so are you guy's, thanks again. I know when I get my truck I will have lot's more questions.

I just got one day or so ago and I been reading so much on this site my eyes are numb. Im gonna strip mine down and a total clean and rebuild and replace anything that looks like it needs it. I have a few upgrades such as a pipe and the killer bee upgrade for saftey and security. Mine was used and seems to have passed threw a few hands so I looked over everything before i ran it. I checked alot stuff but forgot to check the radio box and well it had cpl inches of water in it and when i ran it the water ( im guessing) got up and into the reciever. After a short run away, and a nice bush that stopped it no damage was done but lesson learned.

Id say go for it, they arent to bad on the wallet compared to some and they seem tough, its huge and from my short two runs they really rip.

Whatever ya do have fun with it :)

go for it

i did a lot of thinking before get mine bud and like you didn't want to spend an left eye on a truck i also came from nitro and i still play with'm but once you fire it up your gasser trust me you'll be hooked, and no better than the redcat rampage series to get you pumped up about 1/5 scale's

right out the box trucks are fine, just read on all of the threads here and you'll be good to go!

if your concern is money try asking first some of this guys have lots of spare parts they might sell

or there's other ways to get used but in good condition parts that you'll need

but don't be afraid you canot go wrong with redcat i got two of them MT's one of those is mi lil brother's and he run's a 29cc bigbore kit and a baja ss pipe everything else stock and he love's it!

It's the necessary evil of 5th scale. You buy one and the upgrades and mods begin. Doesn't matter what brand unless you buy a comp version for $2500, then it has the bling. I'm a die hard FG guy. I just bought another new one. and have a shopping cart full of things to order before I even drive it. and if you saw how much fg bling costs you'd understand why it's still sitting in my shopping cart and not being delivered LOL
