It depends if he's prepared to undervalue the item - he could be hit hard if he's found so most now say NO.
That said, >£15 from registered company or >£40 private individual you pay the stated declared value x 20% as VAT + Handling fee.

A bigger item like that will probably incur some serious surcharges ....

See if anyone has tried it.
Perhaps they'll PM you instead of stating too 'openly' on the Forum ....
