you guys using petroleum based or silicone based shock oil

I use silicone base.

do you fill from the top of shock? wats the trick to get the right amount in. seems i waste most of it on the work bench.

Fill it from the bottom. Remove the lower cap and fill it up to the threads inside the shock body. Then thread the cap back on a little and push the shock shaft in slowly. Some fluid will leak out, that's fine. Once the shaft bottoms out, tighten the cap and you're done.
