shock oil?????

what shock wt shock oil should i be using front n rear for big jumps and bashing ,going to fitting dark soul shafts and maybe ramtech 20% stiffer springs
 
I started the other thread in the marder / baja section. Basically it comes down to what shocks you have with regard to the number and size of holes in the piston. More or larger holes = heavier wt oil & less or smaller holes = thinner oil.

I was baffled so went to Rossendale Models & asked their advise. The lads there race 5th's so have plenty of experience with different set-ups. Maybe worth you giving them a call & telling them what you are running. It will at least give you a good starting point.

I also added the KCR balloon springs to the back of mine (£10 pair) which improved the handling in general and performance of the shocks over the jumps. don't forget if you go for too hard a setting with the jumps in mind you will compromise on the handling over rough ground & it will bounce all over the place & you will be lucky to hit the jump in a straight line :rolleyes:

For the std FG shocks I was told 3000 was good but 6000 was needed for the alloy shocks.

I think there is a lot of trial and error here Maudsley. It depends what suits your bash site and driving style.

Oops,go to the baja forum and ask the lads there.As ya know I'm new to the baja's so I'm no use to you.
I've just filled the 5T up with 5 wt in the front and 40 wt in the rear as per instructions.

cheers paul, ive just put 20 in rears be seems a bit slow now. just ordered some 10 off ebay so going to try that. so thats inbetween stock n the 20 ive just tried. the old oil in rears was hanging anyway so done good to freshen up anyway. kkeping the fronts at 40 like stock ill just put fresh in.

do u want a plate knocking up to strengthen the lower front up did u say last week? might do a few n charge £10? do u think thats reasonable? sell a few n it goes to some upgrades then hopefully

i will have one soon, ive just had to order some rear foams and some beadlocks plus im in need of tyres....lol.....
