Alright, so I've been doing some reading on shocks for my MT. I have the piggy back shocks and the little nut on the inside holding the disc on the shaft stripped off. The shaft threads also have a bit of damage.

I can't find a nut this small locally. Therefore, I'll be buying something online. I read a thread saying that the HPI front shock repair kit will fit into the rampage's. Does that include the piggy backs or are they a little different? I'm considering this as an option.

Seems to me I read another thread recommending a certain very reliable shock for the MT, but now I can't find that thread anymore.

That nut is the smallest pain in the ass i've encountered... perhaps ever! I'm about ready to just buy a really good set of shocks. I was hoping to save some money and just find that little nut, but that's not working out. The worst thing would be to patch this thing together and have it fall apart my first run this spring and then have to wait for parts again.

So for those with the knowledge, could you please offer it here? I'd like to know what I can do with my piggy back shocks and what my options are for a good replacement.

Thanks for the input guys!

Ok, so forget the piggy backs... if your shocks disintegrated tomorrow and you had $200 to burn, what shocks would you put on your MT?

Probably Baja shocks, but that would require some modding. I believe Rob adapted some Baja shocks to a TT. If I remember correctly, he bolted some Baja rear shock mounts to the shock towers. Hopefully he'll chime in and clarify.

So here's my shocks in their current state:

Fun. Right?

Ok, so I went back to the local HS and talked to the owner. He found a nut that would fit. Turns out it's not the nut after all... the little bit of damage on the shaft's threads is what's holding me up.

Back to the HS, picked up a HPI shock repair kit. Well....

The lower part does not just attach to the rampage piggy backs, and the shaft is a different size, I thought I could just use the shaft.

Good times.

So... since I already bought a repair kit for $42 locally, I might as well find a decent deal on a pair HPI shocks and make them fit, right? Then I would need the shock mounts too? One little problem is turning into one big headache. Maybe I'll suck up the $42 and get a pair of new piggy backs. That sounds more economical, but how sturdy are they compared to the HPI shocks?

That sounds like a good plan. I think I'll just get the regular shocks and run them for a bit. Thanks!

Looks like you got old style HPI shaft. That's why its smaller. The newer shafts are 6mm. No way to return what you just bought?

I would just buy the RedCat V3 shocks and run them as is. The V3's have 5mm shafts. Double check what DDM sells...might be the old 4mm shocks.

I opened the package so I'm not going to try to return it. I ordered a full set of regular MT shocks. I'll run them as is for a while. For a couple bucks a pop, I also got o-ring kits for them. We'll see how long they last before I need to get the HPI parts on there.
