As the title states this is a silly question.

Will a FM Car Ariel wired up to the radio receiver on the buggy work ?
would it make it better/worse would it not work ?

Or would the best option be to try it & see for myself ?

hi mate
my first silly question is why?
2nd never seen or heard of it being done.
3rd what type of ariel are you talking done i.e the rubber or pull out type?

whatever you do don't change the length of the antenna wire. the wire is a specific gauge and length, shortening or lengthening (including soldering it to a metal antenna) will drasticly alter the range in a negative way

Mainly for character m8 lol

It would be the screw in type with the spring in the lower part covered in rubber then it goes into a metal rod

short answer, no

FM stands for frequency modulation (as oposed to AM, amplitude modulation) and describes how the information is transmitted. The length of the antenna is carefully tuned for the frequency you use (either 27MHz or 40MHz for RC, typically 100MHz for car radio)

long answer, it may be possible to make it work but you'll have to spend ages getting the length correct, and even then the reception is likely to be worse as it will be prone to more interference. See the following thread for the science bit so you can experiment if you want, just make sure you have a kill switch as it could go very wrong!

If you're after 'appearance', you can use the 2.4GHz, and the antenna will probably remain inside (nearly all of mine are), and simply fit the 'twangy aerial' wherever you want - connect a piece of fine wire for effect - sorted !!
