No matter how tight I get the adjustment nut/collar the main gear keeps slipping.
New Vekta.5 gas buggy never run, brand new.
what did I do wrong?

I'd take it apart again and start over, definitely something missed if it's slipping. I was able to snug mine down to pretty much lock it... can you take a few better pics of the pack?
Took it all apart inner disks were oily and gummed up.
Put it back together and now perfect.
I’ll put it all back together tomorrow.

Put it back to get her all spinning fine by hand.
Started back up and same thing drive locks up won’t spin forward by hand, same as before.
Do I need new slipper clutch?

Finally after fiddling with this thing. Turns out the brake disk is so loose on the rear drive shaft it gets out of alignment then binds the drive shaft. Is that why I’ve seen shrink tubing on some pictures?

Yes that's why you need to buy the RCR brakes for it. Not to mention the brake disc's is aluminum and the pads are steel, so when you use the brakes hard the aluminum will transfer to the steel pad and it just makes the situation worse.
