Hello, I am new to 1/5th scale. Just bought a new rampage mt v3. Its got a jetpro pipe and a baja wheel kit on it. all stock otherwise. I am on the verge of setting it on fire. I thought these were supposed to be cool. This thing wont even cut a doughnut. I was in nitro for years so no comments that i didnt break ity in right. I need real possibilities what is wrong. Starts fine. and will go pretty good. just takes forever to get up to speed. Has absolutely no take off power. Checked the filters, all are fine. Running 93 octane shell gas mixed to spec, and yes it is opening the throttle all the way. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!

What oil mix have you set 5oz to the gallon the clutch spring is not the problem sounds like of the low end tuning :D

you are comparing 10lbs trucks to a 40lb truck.......take off is going to be slow. But you should still be getting into the power range very quick. ive got a v1 and it will break the tires loose on grass and do 180's. might want to check you low speed and make sure you didnt mix to much oil.

Change the clutch spring to a 8000 rpm spring
Agreed!

i was thinking the same about my truck when i made the step to 1/5th

these engine don't really have any power untill they reach there powerband then they come to life.

i fitted a 8,000rpm clutch spring and lightend shoes and i got all the power i wanted! (crazy douhgnuts now)

the car takes of on the powerband rather then, slowly moving untill the powerband kicks in

rember nitro engines produce insane power for there size, so you cant really compair nitro vs petrol.

my savage Xl(with a 3 speed gearbox) will beat my 1/5th truck hands down on top speed and accelration, but my 1/5th truck will go up, over, though and smash though almost anything

Also rember petrol trucks will gave u ALOT less trouble then nitro cars do.

i don't think rampages are junk they perform as good as the operator will put effort into them, thats part of the fun finding a weak link and fixing or modding it to make it "bulletproof" don't get frustrated just start by making a lists of possible thing you can do their like tune the carb check for air leaks, stuff like that, eliminate problems so you can get it singled out, the setup you describe should be fast, lighter wheels, jetpro pipe, i have the stock mt wheels (10-11 pounds) and i can spin 360 donuts on the street what size motor you have?

Take your time and tune it, trying to get the correct plug color. After you get that sorted, then you can start modding to your taste. You already have a tuned pipe and a lighter wheel/tire combo. There's no reason why it should be slow even with a stock spring. Posting up a video also helps as many here can help with whatever issues you may have.

Good luck.

gears are stock, and ive tried tuning it. yes I know they are heavier than a t maxx, it has the stock 26cc motor. Will try the clutch spring swap and let you know what happens. Maybe Ive just got a bad engine????? Will the 30.5 engine from ddm just drop in, or will i have to mod to make it fit? many thanks for the advice guys. Sorry for the frustration but I got punked by a radio shack POS. Im looking to make this thing scream. had a t maxx that was clocked at 72 by a cop before I got the mt. just flying blind at the moment. thanks again everyone.

The 30.5cc should fit if it has a hy or cy clutch housing and fan shroud the rampage was made for a hy or cy motor modded or stock to drop in no modding or drilling I picked up a hpi 8000 rpm cluch springs and one of them was bad it stretched out of shape just putting it on the clutch shoes, if like you said your motors good then you should be set once your springs come in.

If you want the power/acceleration of a 1/8 nitro or 1/8 brushless in a Rampage it is possible but the handling wont come close. And to get the power/acceleration is going to cost you.

I run my gassers stock first and they do seem very boggy on the low end. For ANY gasser HPI, Redcat, mcd, nutech etc. your most likely going to add: headkit, pipe, fast servos, light tires/wheels, air filter, lightweight clutch, 8k spring just for starters. Sometimes when you upgrade something you find out your old one was bad and didnt even know it.

Have you checked your head/engine gaskets? Fuel tank vapor lock? What you describe is an engine not running right vs. a not very powerful engine right?

TRy to three tank break in first, after that try to lean high side ,you will see engine run better,up date to new clutch, you will enjoy with it,I run my truck throught 7 gallon fuel now,I use 92 and 40.1 mix.

drop in a Zen 290 motor which I did for $235.00 and you will see a real power gain. Its a totally different animal.

No the spring wont say anything on it. Most of the 8000 are red or orange not saying there isn't other color ones. Just the ones I use hpi brand. The stock spring is blackish grey I believe

Check to make sure your center gear nut is not tight in the tranny. Mine was doing the same thing. I backed it out a half turn and it now screams
