do u thing the .428 holes around the perimeter of the ring gear will weaken it in anyway they are on the very outside in between the screw holes the pic they show in the online catalog show no such holes maybe an up grade or mispackaged .sorry to hear about the problems.but that mottha goes like hell anyway, sounds like it could rip the balls off a sasquach. can't wait to see the next vid after the kinks are worked out.thanks for all the help u have been id
have cut this female dog up long ago if it hadn't for u one more thing what did u use for bearings and seals on the pinion shaft

thanks doug

i used the big diff bearings (26x10x8) for the pinion as well and machined my own bearing hub

@Al
once it's dialed in and loosens up it should really scream...this is still the first tank after a quick heat cycle and was still a bit rich on top...i've also upped the spur gear from 56t to 58t to go from 12:1 to 12.42:1 to help with the holeshot though even now it lifted the front wheels off the sand when i nailed it at the start

i think my new transfer gear set up should hold up ok now, probably just pass the buck to the next weakest link...with all 4 wheels and the transfer gears locked, drive train stress and periodic failure/breakage is inevitable:rolleyes:

i cleaned the tires etc with isopropl before gluing with gold ca glue, it acts like a primer and man does it stick good, i think the rubber will tear before the bond fails...hope so cos it took about 30hrs to do those bleedin tires and i've no other options

if the glue fails u could try windshield urathane it has a primer. this poop will not let u down ive been in the body repair bisness sence 1957 the best stuff u can get is at a gm dealership Wear rubber gloves.if u cant get it let me i ha a case of the stuff on the side of my tool box .I A just tried 50033 and the said they have no such part think the devil is on the other end.sorry im such pain in your ass

that's my buddies 2005 with common rail cummins, 6 spd and smarty box...thing soots like an old steam train when you stomp on it...probably set at 450hp and 850-900ftlb...my old grey dodge 2000 3/4tonne with a 24valve cummins, built BD auto trannie, programmer good for about 425hp and 815ftlb, pretty mild but it's my daily driver/work truck, straight 4"pipe from the turbo...barks like an old D8 and blows some pretty good soot clouds:lol: poor thing needs a body make over this year...get 25mpg+ on the highway believe it or not...would certainly raise a few eyebrows barking these 2 around St Helens, the enviroment police wouldn't be pleased:badair:...my sleeper stealth TT (3000gt)on jack stands awaiting flushed and sealed tank is a corvette killer...boosting 14psi sub 5 second 0-60:cup-1:

so here's V2 transfer gear set up...just need to tidy up the corners and finish welding the rear driveshaft up

started with 3 vertigo bearing mounts

DSC02773_zps5d07122e.webp

then had to build off from that...looks a simple set up now it's done but was a female dog figuring it out to work with the parts on hand

ordered some 5b/t/sc hydro made by team bluestar...hopefully they don't leak and provide enough power..cheap so we'll see...i'll weld a hex on the back of the brake gear shaft for a disc and probably run 2 calipers, one on each side and a single disc

Looking good.

Not many would know what a D8 is!!
Went from 132bhp to over 300bhp now according to Wiki!!

Been 'close and personal' with D9's in the African mines.

The truck .....
Looking good, of course.

Video time I suppose will be the weekend? Should be good.
Al.

Unbelievable piece of engineering Moo.Quite fantastic mate.
I was looking at the other vid you put up(where the gears strip) and with a few crafty camera angles,I think it would look like a scale 1-1.

thanks mooman

here's 50033 http://www.vancouverhobbies.com/50cedi.html
i think it may now be an xt part...scroll down this page and you can see the 30t ring gear with the big holes and the shaft http://www.vancouverhobbies.com/rampage-xt-and-xb-replacement-parts.html

here's another on board go pro run...first time running it out in the yard with the buggy wheels on prior to the visit with the hill

thanks for the help i found the part.i must be getting to old or breathed to much bondo dust over the last 55 yrs. thanks again im sure i'
ll be buggin u again wish we lived close i could fix` up your body probs on ur truck

doug:cool:

glad to help...

brakes are done, used the setup out my toxyc after noticing it would be real easy to fit, stopping wont be an issue with a lot more brake than the previous setup. will chop the plugs and get it tuned and have another attempt at the hill tomorrow...i'll make sure to get video again this time it's going to make it

DSC02784_zps94891c97.webp

alas, teething problems plague me...every time i go to tune it ready for the next hill run something decides to die...first the weak assed hitec hv th servo went for a poop, replaced that with a 6v hobbyco/hitec and also threw in an adjustable castle bec to regulate the voltage into the rx ...previous bec was 5v just on the br servo, ...bit of extra wiring required so i can run batt level telemetry on my react before it hits the rx.
so got that all peachy...another tuning attempt yesterday resulted in the nut on the end of the spur/transfer shaft backing off which let a gear square chew out so lost rear drive again...bollocks!...easy enough fix but seeing as the gears rotate clockwise it wants to back off and not tighten the nut...hoping a lock grub screw and extra clearance to the brace bearing face will cure it...find out soon enough

alas teething problems plague me..first the th servo died...replaced that, then yesterday the spur gear shaft end nut backed off, chewed out the transfer gear square and lost rear drive...again...slight modification to the nut and try again...seems every time i go to tune it ready for the next hill run it finds another way to quit...see what happens today...

thanks for the offer, i managed to weld a grade 8 bolt on plum to the end of the front drive shaft, filed it square to match the axle which then gave me all the room i needed to sort the bugger out

DSC02793_zps4fcead9e.webp

DSC02794_zps899dec54.webp

found some 10x6 mini bearings to use to run on the shaft and press into the bigger brace bearing

DSC02795_zpsaa2e6951.webp

DSC02797_zpsd377989b.webp

now the gears are held on with a separate nut, and there's a washer and nut on the back side to lock it all together... i figured an inner bearing set will be isolated from the nuts so it should all stay tight now...have to wait for the monsoons to quit before i can go try it but i'm fairly confident it'll work as planned

DSC02798_zpsb725dded.webp

one thing i really like about this scale is there is enough room to work without having to teardown a bunch of crap
