Hello all, I've found a lot of good info on here but am looking for a few answers to some things that are vexing me. I am looking to install Hemiboots on my KM Alloy but don't know if they will work, also wondering if the hpi clutch and diff will install or do I have to replace parts, ie, clutch bell, diff case etc... I would really appreciate any opinions you may have on these issues. Also wondering if there are any parts that are not a direct swap from HPI to a KM

Thanks...

Hello no I need to say the Km, Rovan Diffs are in fact Totally different in there own ways. I own 3 km & 1 Rovan I upgraded the gear boxes to alloy in all of them. all different brand gear boxes too & they did not fit proper in each one of them as the alloy diffs are just a bit larger wider hard to explain to be honest. So I bought one hpi diff to see what happens & fit rite in all the alloy gear box's. I also opened up the km & rovan diffs after replacing all 4 with the Hpi & noticed that the drive axles were longer then the other when I compared them to km & rovan diffs. Even the gears & other internals are different in there own way. To be honest sell your Km diff buy a Hpi Diff then if u need a part for your diff buy the Hpi Diff parts trust me. Km trucks are great for the money but the diffs not compatible in any way really. Clutch bell is fine & all other parts are good & compatible with Hpi Diffs Not so Much I hope this helps you out.

my km 001 started as a roller,,, right now its probably half or so aftermarket parts,, everything I have bought for the Baja has fit with no issues,,, Baja plastics seem bit harder than km's .. just put on the rpm rear bumper skid plate etc,,, have the irp tie rods coming and kraken stainless hinge pins too,,, ive used some hpi parts to, so far no issues at all,,,,

yep I found the same, the spider gears are slightly different too.i tried to use some out my hpi when my km diff blew, wouldnt fit.
I d say 90% OF HPI stuff will fit to a km

Good info on the diffs. I had no idea they were not interchangeable. So, just to be clear a HPI baja COMPLETE diff (5B or 5T) will not fit the KM transmission cases?

No don't through away your money on trying to repair a km, Rovan diff with Hpi diff parts or other way around they are not compatible with each other they are just a bit different. U can Run Complete Hpi Diffs in all Km, Rovan Buggy & Trucks Gear box's. I run complete Hpi diffs in my km & Rovan Baja T1000 trucks Gear box's. Plus when u look at both diffs side by side u know what one is the cheap km, Rovan one & the true Hpi Gen is. Awsome trucks but really bad diffs. Always upgrade your Km, Rovan Diff to Hpi Gen if u want a strong reliable diff you can always get the rite part for & not worry about it being a mm to big or mm to small. Hpi diff all the way the rest of the km, Rovan truck can stay lol.

I have swapped diffs in my HPI my KM and My old Rovan and never had any issues of them being different or not working. But True Hpi is the best way to go for sure, just better quality all around. The only issue i did run into was TR case savers would not fut in the KM or Rovan transmission cases, they almost would but it was a tad to big.

i replaced the stock km diff case with aftermarket alloy case split case too to make swapping or getting diff inside it out easier, aftermarket drive shafts too darksoul bones I think it was, I didn't have any issues with fit I used a km diff inside it all metal and the original shaft to clutch and everything works perfectly. so far held up nicely no issues
