I blew my diff this weekend to. The plastic housing broke and wiped out my spider gears. Does anyone make hardened gears for that set-up?

I am also interested to hear what would be recomended. I have not blown my dif yet but would like to know what the recomended upgrade is so when I need it or can afford it I know what to get.

Well, I talked to Dave ESPI, I am not sure if he is a member here, but he's a member at RCU, and he knows his stuff.

He recommended me to get http://www.davesmotors.com/store/product2605.html

at $206. He claimed that after 8 gallons, the diff. still runs strong, and he aint no walker either. He bashed his FG MT hard. I am not sure if that is what i want to get.

I am gonna open up my diff first, see what's damaged. Hopefully someone with more experience can chime in. :)

I have not used the 8485/05 - http://www.fg-modellsport-gmbh.de/_PDF-ANLEITUNGEN/A.8485-5.pdf but, you may want to make sure you do not have to install diff risers so that the center of the sleeve clears the chassis. The adjustable diff is great - If you need the adjustment. If you look closely the cases are the same the difference is that the center shaft squeezes tight to slow the transfer from one wheel to the other and the outside case has enough bite for the adjustment screw.

If your gears are ok, and you can buy just the gears you need, then a good choice is this:

AMS 290 SS Sleeve - http://www.pythonmotorsports.com/fg/offroad_parts/fg_truck_parts/hop_up/truck_hopup.html
8484 - http://www.davesmotors.com/store/product2420.html

No matter what upgrade the next weak point will be your outdrive cup so get an extra just in case - http://www.davesmotors.com/store/product2458.html

Follow the differential how-to and silicone mod in our forum how-to's

I am going to open up my diff today and see what is broken. I will keep you guys updated. If my diff gears are still ok, i am going to get the alum housing and AMS steel protector.

Btw, the write up on silicone mod is awesome. :)

I take it their website is not showing them out of stock? DDM's are back ordered too.:( Make sure to use the silicone option until it can be purchased and you will be ok.

Yes there all out and Python is closed for a few days. I just might have to make my own SS cover. I was also looking to buy aluminum engine mounts as well but I cant seem to find anyone else except for Python and there out of them. If anyone knows where to find them state side let me know?

Anyways I will have my diff set-up tomorrow from Daves I had them two day mail it to me. I'm very impressed with there service.

You are correct I placed an order for it and had my money refunded with a note that they are back ordered and they don't understand why their website is not reflecting that.

I would love to but Python doesn't have any in stock and I can't find any place else that has them in stock. So if someone can point me to where I can purchase one I definitely will.

Dave

I just orderd from largescalerc yesterday the 93$ diff kit and the alloy engn mounts and kill switches so i don't kill diff again. im having truble finding the ss cover for diff

i am not sure which one is better. I really would like to find out too. Taking out the diff is a PITA, I think I will just install the stock one with silicone mod. :)
