Hi all,
just took the rc car out its a shengqi hummer(Firehammer mt)with a good load of upgrades, but anyway it was running great until it started revving really high, i stopped it and it stalled.i then went over to it and there was a kind-of sizzling and popping sound coming from the engine, it kinda sounded like a BBQ lol. when i opened the engine up (pulled the trigger) it got louder and started to sound like it was sucking in air.i left the car for a bit and then tried to strat it again,it wouldn't start but i noticed that there was some fuel dripping from the carb.
Does anyone know what the problem may be??
sorry for the long post btw
Thanks
Toby:)

Where is the fuel coming from? Has a fuel line split or is it coming from the carb body? What engine & carb are you running? If its the stock carb it is a poor copy of a Walbro and is likely it could have shat itself and caused the problem :(

The random high revving is a sign of an air leak and the sizzling will be because it has cooked itself due to lean running as a result of the air leak.

Take the plug out and check the condition and colour. This will give you some idea of the fuel / air mix when it died. Anything darker than choc brown is rich (which sounds unlikely from what you have said) and any lighter is lean with white being dangerously lean and will confirm an air leak. It will be worth changing anyway to eliminate it as a problem when you try to get it going again.

thanks dwarfy,
im fairly sure the fuel is coming from the carb body itself and not the fuel pipe as i replaced the fuel tank with an fg marder one, with new fuel lines literally last run.yeah the engine is the standard 23cc and the same with the carb. do you recomend any fairly cheap upgraded carbs keeping in mind i may upgrade to a 28.5cc in the future??
Toby:)

I would get a walbro 668 carb as you will be able to use this on your new engine and they are a good reliable carb. There are other walbro carbs that will also do the job such as the high performance 990 carb but I suppose it depends on your budget. Going for a cheap copy will end in you buying a genuine walbro anyway so not worth wasting money on IMO.

Do a search for carbs on here & you will be able to read up on the different models

Hi again,
took the car out yesterday after cutting the fuel lines and putting them back on again (i managed to put a hole in one of them with pliers trying to push it back on:rolleyes:) and tightening up all bolts
it seems to be running fine now, must have been the combination of a dogily put on fuel line and bolts untightening themselves.
Thanks for the advive anyway
Toby:D
