All spek radios aren't bad. Could be bad antenna, receiver or transmitter. If you can afford new radio gear then I'd go with futaba. Futaba radio gear seems to work nice and smooth.
 
i run a dx3s and yes the range is not all that good with telemitry rx,,,,it was ok for me where i run its ok but had the odd time where it would go out off range,,,,but ive swaped over rx to the other one that comes with handset and its alot better and not had any problems with the range even going further away when before it would have stoped,,the other thing range aside its packed full with features and good value if your happy to take a gamble on the range issue,,,,but its ok for me mate and im happy
 
its down to you mate,out of all the posts on here im the only one not slating it about the range if thats good enough for you the get one,but if the range aint good enough your stuck with and blaming me if you know what i mean.

if you get the dx3s it should come with 2 recivers one for teleimtry and one sport reciver id 100% get one but use the sport rx,the telemtry rx is more a gimmick and suited more to nitro cars/buggys.check em out on ebay thats were i got mine for the money its a good handset
