What are you all useing to check your speed and maybo RPMs on boats ... I am looking for a small unit i can move from boat to boat ./.

im not a boater persay, but i will be giving it a run this summer.

for Tach readings:
Sendac makes a small Tachometer. has a wire the wraps the plug wire. Its stated to be accurate gaurenteed to 17,000, but alot of guys will vouch for its accuracy up to 20,000.

there is also a unit called the Tiny Tack, also good up to 20,000 i understand.

If you run a Nomadio radio, you can always use the Telemetery Tach sensor. not sure of the accuracy, BUT they are designed to be used on Nitros, and electrics when run in MPH (you can set the unit for MHP, and im pretty sure rpm, since it is called a RPM Sensor. heh. so if they can read a 30,000 rpm nitro motor accuratly (im not sure if they can, never tried one out with my React system), then 20,000 should be good.
i understand the new Spektrum DX3R and DX3S now have built in telemetry on thir units, but its Spektrum, so even if the Telemetry was top notch, and the RPM sensor was accurate to .0000000000001ths, its still a spektrum. lol thats all i can say.

speed is usually shot with a quality Radar Gun. like the units from Bushnell ranging in the $500.00 plus range. but a quality 100.00 200.00 dollar radar gun should work. and No, the HotWheels radar gun don't work. lol i tried.

i am looking for the speed many .... more like the GPS ones you put in the boat ,, but if it will do the RPMs too it would be a plus

If you're feeling brave

most phones with GPS give telemetry.

I have a Nokia N96 and it with record average and max speed ... I haven't been brave enough to strap it to the car yet though

Sorry I miss read your post..A cheap GPS forerunner 101..Ther about 60 bux
made to strap to your wrist..That might work for ya...do a google searchor check
e-bay....AKAslawhammer

i use the Garmin eTrex H waterproof GPS system and ive brought a SenDEC's STS-5000 Shop Tachometer, i wasnt to happy with the tiny tac for on water use, but good for onland use.

GEKO will not lie.
To hell with the gun, they are not that accurate + the geko also stores your max speed foer bragging rights too.
waterproof and it floats too.
