I can get 40mph as it is, would 50mph be doable with decent acceleration?

Speed gains from the 2 speed?
There's a gear size calculator on demonrc's site, you can see there what gears are available and you can easily calculate what percentage of gain it gives. Going to 50 from 40 is a big increase, 25%. I think the acceleration loss will be noticeable. I don't have the 2 speed so maybe others that tried different gear combinations can better help you with specific recommendations.
