On Friday (10/4) I put a GPS speedometer on two of my trucks, the Losi 5T and Kraken Vetka TT.

The temperature was 48F, Sunny with winds were 10 MPH, and humidity was 70% (about 2PM)

Each truck was on pavement and did six runs each. My results:

INFO:
  • Losi 5T and stock engine and spur gear, however with a 23T pinion gear.
  • The Kraken is stock.
The Results
  • The Kraken reached a top speed of 34.0 MPH. I bought a step-up gear for the Kraken so I will inform on those results at a later date.
  • The Losi 5T reached a top speed of 41.2 MPH

My Father and I returned to the field and wanted to know what types of numbers I could get on compacted 2" long grass.

The Losi 5T was 40 MPH
The Kraken was 30.3 MPH.

Results on grass:
I moved the low speed needle 1/16 (if that) CW and was surprised at what I found:

The Losi 5T reached 42.5 MPH (on GRASS)
The Kraken reached 35.6 MPH - if you are into percentages, that's a 17% increase just by turning the low speed needle 1/16 of a turn!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good data , and good learned knowledge. When i actively raced motocross throughout the 90's we had a saying with respect to engine tune, " They always run best right before they blow up" . Keep in mind its dangerous to tune based upon peak performance only. Tune for a reliable compramise and favor a slightly rich tune.

They're rich for sure. There's a nice trail of smoke coming out and like I said, Its <1/16 of a turn, maybe 1/32 +.01. I get annoyed replacing small parts and would be a little more than annoyed if I blew an engine. The Rovan should be coming to an end, after eight years, that's the only original part, but it still moves.
