well got an answer from FG last night which basically said alloy engine mounts should be a straight install and gave me directions on how to install them, don't know why coz you cant go wrong installing engine mounts if you tried LOL.

so im back to square one. Ordered a new gear as I think its worn a fair bit thanks to the 5-6 times i broke engine mount bolts and the couple of times I broke the engine mount.

im also going to shave 2 mm off the bracket, if its too much I can always shim it back up so no biggie!

well the modded bracket didnt work well, couldnt get the mesh even no matter how much I played with it so ordered a new bracket and installed everything last night, mesh is perfect now. bring on the weekend to give it a good test!

when setting the mesh I normaly use a piece of thick paper, or thin card, and butt the gears up real close/tight before tightening the bolts. then when I take the paper out it's about right. Doesn't help me get the gears paralel though, so if you have any ideas on getting the gears straight, let me know.

p.s. despite not posting on you thread much, I think you have a lot of avid readers, so keep the posts coming (is this a contender for most epic thread on LSF yet?)

thanks for the info brawn, its blardy hard getting a peice of paper in the small slot on 4wd model but ill give it a go.

had the day off yeasterday so did some work on the fg. noticed that rear dog bones were wearing, had new spares so put them in. pins are about 50% worn over 30 tanks with never having run boots which I think is pretty good, i know a HPI would never be able to do that.

wow don't know about most epic thread, ive though a few times of stopping as I don't get many responses but your comment will keep me going :) thanks

just waiting for my new pinion gear now and take 5 to check the mesh LOL. I may have to upgrade to alloy gear carrier by the sounds of things.

FINALLY!!! ran 2 trouble free tanks today. So looking foward to hitting the tracks again tommorow!

Next mod for me is going to be alloy gear carrier, my bearings keep popping out of the stock plastic one. After that ill be looking at some front disc brakes for it.

ran two more tanks yeasterday at essex park bmx track, had a blast, raced my mates 1/8 brushless and spanked him in a 20 lapper :D

Had a massive stack with it on Sat, hit a tree REAL hard, LH front lower swing arm was full of wood and a took a chunk out of the tree but nothing broke! Ah love the FG :D

CT-18 worked excellent last night, much better than the degreser stuff ive been using! let is soak for 5 mins and the hose got it all off. good thing too coz it cost me $30 for 5 litres of the stuff.

re-checked all the gear meshes last night, everything is still sweet, tightened a few bolts that came loose after the weekend. noticed however that both rear axles have allot of sideways play in them. i need to try and figure out if its the bearings, uprights or the axles themseves that has worn and is now causing the play, should get a chance tonight to get a closer look.

i found on mine that most of the play was coming from the hinge pin on the hub end of the suspension arms. by replacing the lower pin and changing the upper arm to alloy it all got a lot stiffer, and sharpened up the handling

excellent, now that you mention it ive had to hammer that pin back in place a couple of times as the e clip popped off so that would have allowed it to wobble and cause the play. excellent ill look at that area first. thanks.

had a close look at the hinge pin last night, no play at all in there, play is definetly coming from the axle area, im going to strip it down after the weekend and try to nut it out.

thanks pipe, ive thought about stopping a few times but kept it going, good to know some people are reading and better yet enjoying the read!

had a massive stack on sat, finally broke some parts out of an accident LOL.

Hit a rovan baja at full noise (rovan was also going full noise) and snapped in half an outdrive and snapped in half a shock shaft.

Amazing the stock plastic swing arm didnt break. Already got what I need on order. Rovan didnt break anything but the dog bone snapped less than 5 mins later so may have been weakened from the accident, must have been the angle I hit the Rovan but it was a hard hit to say the least.

I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRRRRRYYYYYYYYYYYYY Sohan........

I didn't mean it......honest....

You are right though...it was a VERY hard hit......

HAHA awesome. thrash testing at it's best... my van pool partner is an aussie. we just spent 2 days on the island racing... finally have an addict like me that is willing to make the trip over and split the costs. $75 ferry ride each way gets expensive... he loves his baja but with mostly 4wd rc's out there it gets tough.

don't stress ross, as I said accidents happen. the spare shock shafts I had at home arnt comptaible, they attach to the piston with e clips and my shafts are the upgraded ones with a lock nut so had to buy a new shaft, come in a packet of two for $30  which I thought was way rich.

doesn't matter ive got a spare now, ill bring it up with me next time I bash with you  only joking mate.

here's a couple of pics of the damage. notice the plastic end peice still has some of the shaft left in it, im not going to try and remove that!
