got my bits today, shaft came with washers and lock nuts so that solves that.

i had a look at my clutch shoes last night, done approx 30 tanks so thought they would need a change, got spares so no biggie but they are only 50% worn, not bad for roughly 30 tanks!

ok rebuilt all four shocks last night and put the outdrive back in.

i think the new 2,000wt oil still might be a bit on the light side but wont know for show until I run it, still might not be up to jumping without the chassis scraping but ive used it anyway, time will tell.

it's that fine line. do you want good dampening to make it through the ruff stuff or do you want good dampening for big jumps. one is a trade off for the other. I prefer the handlin over jumping myself. keep the jumps closer to the ground and fly through the washboards and moguls

very true pipe, i think I have close to the perfect set up suspension wise for flat track racing, i played with them all winter.

1,000wt fg shocker oil with purple springs, have them wound done about 1/4 of the way front and a little more on rear (don't have the measurements with me). With this set up i found the front to have good bite and allows the arse end to come out when you push hard which is how I like it. I find if I have too much traction on the rear it pushes the front wide and I can control a slide better than I can understeer. The purple springs allow very quick rebound too. when I do flat track racing with mates this is the set up I run.

Now that summer is around the corner her I want a good set up for bmx tracks which is where we race when dry. it will take me a little while but I plan to keep the FG for years so when I got it right I know and can easily change set up depending on where im running.

I used to visit the local bmx track but they have paved the high banked corners this year. too hard on things. it's funny I am very picky about my on road setup, but for offroad I just get a neutral setting and adapt. so many variables in off road. maybe if there was serious racing... we just bash with everyone going the same direction hehe and I try to avoid the psycho mt's.

I would love to try an fg 4wd. the shorter chassis must turn on a dime. I don't much care for mt's anymore.

i miss my MT and want to get another but got a project im paying off so that wont be for a while.

the FG 4wd's understeer allot out of the box, the suspension needs to be softened allot from stock and tyres need to be changed, i run despo rims on mt style tire and its perfect, good front end groip and allows the back to come out, a must for running on small tight tracks, i can turn on the tightest of hairpins time after time without spinning.

im very happy I got myself a 4WD.

Ya I bought an FS clone clone just to have an SC truck LOL. I like the scale look. The buggies stay the cleanest though. I'd like to buy the side guards, but spending has about taken a stand still. ordered new tires for the semi this weekend. that with 3 spurs, a new metal pinion, extra clutchbell and a spare f1 front spoiler almost cost as much as the cen did. ordered some tb2 parts and a servo for the rally from vancouver hobbies too. all this spending and work took a sudden turn. I have 2 vehicles to detail this week... only worked 3 days last week too. ahh well. it was a killer run of work while it lasted. I just got used to making all this money for the last 2 months and have spent so much it's going to feel like poverty trying to reserve myself now LOL

tell me about it, im trying to save for a trip up north but want so many upgrades and trying to pay off a new project im trying to keep under wraps for the moment.

i really like the look of the side guards that come with the leo, i think they would keep the inside real clean.

my fg baja gets real dirty inside, mainly because of two small open sections near the front tires, hard to mod coz this is where the steering arms goes through.

pretty cheap, still the front open so if 4WD when turning a fair bit of dirt will come into chassis like mine does now. and you will need to mod it so the body monts are on the sides to house the body.

started it up last night for first time in a couple of weeks, had to do a plug change for some reason but ran ok, cant wait to get it out next.

pull start is finally on its way out, its the original one and lasted 30 tanks, not bad hey!

managed to get out of work early yeasterday so headed to the track for a bit of a play. wanted to try out the shockers with thicker oil.

worked awesome, still bellies out on the bigger jumps but being a FG baja cant stop this as they just don't have the suspension travel as the HPI's. but the shocks still have quick rebound so will still work well on flat tracks and much better on jumps.

i think its the perfect compromise :D

well my day off started well, dropped into the track and ran two trouble free tanks, suspension was working real well and happy. racing my mate against his 1/8 brushless and spanking him so was in a good mood :D

saturday didnt go so well, met up with a few boys at the show grounds and after the engine got warm it started to drop power until it was painfully slow.

so sunday decided to pull the head off which was a mission in itself as I managed to round one of the head bolts, finally managed to get it off. Piston is perfect but cylinder is starting to look a bit tired, around inlet and exhaust ports the chrome finish is starting to fade a bit and towards the bottom but there's no flaking and no scratches so im thinking im just going to try a new ring and see how I go. Got no money for a new top end right now.

LOL i know so happy with the rest of the car (finally) and then it starts to drop power.

Just placed my order for a new ring, teflon inlet gasket and some bolts. I cant decide weather I go copper base or paper base gaskets?

Copper gaskets are very good, just make sure you clean the mating surfaces properly and use a sealer when you put them in. Otherwise there is a chance they could leak. You should also give all the bolts a tighten up after the first run
